Army kick-boxer faces wushu fighter in rematch
The top bout in the 60kg category at the Vientiane Muay Lao Competition at the National Circus ring on Friday once again sees army camp's Detphanty face wushu fighter Sommay from the Wushu-yim camp.
In the Muay Lao Competition at the Vientiane Sports Department's ring last year, Sommay knocked down Detphanty in the third round with a powerful leg strike.
Sommay is a wushu style fighter so he likes to use his strong legs to attack, and Detphanty will be sure to know this.
Detphanty represented the Ministry of National Defence at the 8th National Games in Champassak province last December where he was beaten by Borikhamxay province's 24th SEA Games silver medalist, Xanxay. Xanxay went on to win the gold medal, beating his Champassak opponent in the final round.
Detphanty is now training at the army camp. He is fit and confident about facing Sommay again.
Sommay has recently joined training at the Wushu National Camp in preparation for the 25th SEA Games, to held in Vientiane in December. Other bouts in the Vientiane Muay Lao Competition on Friday include the 32kg category, when IO-din camp's Lomtay takes on Sitlathsamy camp's Kalom; in the women's 45kg when Phetphengkhuan camp's Koungnang faces Khuanchaysikhot camp's Louksone; in the 41kg when Khuanchaysikhot camp's Sinxaynoy faces Sitlathsamy camp's Seua-noy; in the 47kg between IO-din camp's Khaosanith and Sitlathsamy camp's Singneua; and in the 54kg category between Wushu-yim camp's Sisouvanh and Phetphengkhuan camp's Meuangphaynam.
The ST-Group Company Ltd, distributors of the M-150 energy drink, is supporting the friendly competition at the National Circus with cash prizes.
