City slogans inspire hotel renovations
In the spirit of Vientiane 's six community and development slogans, the Chaleunxay Hotel has recently undergone extensive renovations.
“We wanted to apply the six development objectives of the city - cleanliness, greenness, lighting, security, civility and charm - in the renovations we have undertaken in preparation for upcoming important events in Vientiane ,” said Mr Khamchanh Siphanthong, manager of the hotel.
The new look of the hotel is in preparation for visitors to the 25th SEA Games in December, and to celebrate the 450th anniversary of Vientiane as the capital of Laos next year. This was all part of the hotel's strategic plan, he explained.
Mr Khamchanh said in an interview with media this week his hotel is focusing on improving service, especially in public relations, food, accommodation and security.
The hotel is one of many in Vientiane preparing for the SEA Games. Many thousands of guests have stayed in the hotel since it was built in 1999.
Mr Khamchanh said it was not a ‘hotel' in the conventional sense, but was ideally located near shopping centres and was within comfortable walking distance of restaurants and shops, making it an ideal and convenient place to stay.
Guests can also visit historic buildings, temples, museums and monuments in Vientiane .
The five-floor hotel has 50 rooms and is located in Hadsady Tai village, Chanthabouly district, close to the Talatsao Shopping Mall. It is also conveniently near the newest market in Vientiane , the Vangthong Night Plaza , also called the 450 Year Vientiane Market, which opened on September 9.
It is a five-minute walk from the hotel to the new market, which is located on an 18,000 square metre site in Thongkhankham village, Chanthabouly district. There are six two-storey buildings offering many kinds of local products, as well as a small garden and a large parking lot. “Our guests can shop for organic products, souvenirs, jewellery, high quality handicrafts, clothes, handbags and cosmetics,” Mr Khamchanh said.
Guests can also sample local and international food while relaxing at a performance of the daily cultural show run by the market's management.
Mr Khamchanh said all hotel rooms were equipped with the highest standard amenities to ensure visitors were comfortable during their stay. The rooms were large, nicely decorated and had fine views of the city.
Each room has a good sized bathroom and separate toilet, and guests can use the safe at the reception desk.
“Breakfast is included in the room price, which ranges from 100,000-120,000 kip for a standard room and 200,000 kip for a VIP room. We serve Lao, Thai and Vietnamese food,” he said.
Most of the guests who stay in the hotel come from Vietnam .
With visitor numbers temporarily down because of the outbreak of the H1N1 flu virus and the rainy season, Mr Khamchanh decided it was a good opportunity to renovate. At some point in the future he may expand the hotel to meet increasing demand, with many more guests expected after the SEA Games.
His plans include the development of land in Danxi village, Naxaithong district, and he is thinking of providing walks with waterfall views, and ecotourism activities.
