| Committee launches official VIP vehicles
About 180 extra VIP cars will be used to transport important people during the 25th SEA Games, after an announcement by TNK Trading (Mitsu Lao) yesterday.
Company Managing Director Thinnakone Thongkhame said the company would support the games by importing vehicles to service local and regional delegations to the games.
The vehicles will not only transport VIP delegations but, in addition, Very Very Important Person (VVIP) delegates including country leaders.
“We have supplied the vehicles and the SEA Games Transportation Committee has provided drivers. We are now training them to drive these particular models,” Mr Thinnakone said.
“We are working with the committee to support the games. Most of the vehicles will not have a number plate but will carry a 25th SEA Games Vientiane 2009 plate,” he said.
He said that as a Lao citizen, working for the games made him very proud because this was one of the biggest events in the history of Laos , and of real importance in Southeast Asia .
Mr Thinnakone is also directly involved with the games through his role as President of the Lao Wrestling Federation.
He said his wrestlers were ready for the games, even though the sport is relatively new to Laos and hoped one of the 20 contestants would win a medal.
“They need encouragement from spectators and would like local fans to cheer for them during their matches. TNK Trading (Mitsu Lao) will provide a special gift for any wrestler who gets a medal,” he said.
Mr Thinnakone also asked businesses to get involved in supporting his athletes and said he would be very willing to hear from them during the games.
