Some areas inside the stadium will be set aside for booths that will promote and sell local products. |
Mr Soutthanom Inthavong from the SEA Games Marketing and Benefit Committee said yesterday that the installation of the booths in the stadium is to ensure the promotion of local products.
“Our staff spent some time researching, and decided to give the contract to two local companies - Alouny Import-Export and Thavixay Construction - to concede those areas,” he said.
Mr Soutthanom recommended the companies to a 25th SEA Games Organising Committee meeting last week, which agreed to allow the company to install booths to display local products and food along Road 13 south.
The committee will also allow Alouny to set up stalls inside the stadium on a 10 hectare area to display products from around the country as well as ethnic group products.
“We are now discussing the sale of food inside the stadium, and especially the collection of rubbish and other waste that goes with it. One thing we have to think about is cleaning so that's under discussion – we will allow them to sell the food if they can guarantee to keep the place clean,” Mr Soutthanom explained.
He added that the companies will provide IT booths and other interesting products for visitors.
“Alouny Company should inform us of the price of booth rental because we worry that it might be too expensive for local businesses. It should be a reasonable price and the products should be rechecked by the relevant sectors before being put on sale.”
Mr Soutthanom said the products will come from local industry and handicrafts including textiles and various handmade crafts.
“I believe most of our products will be attractive to both local and foreign visitors to buy as souvenirs during the games.”
The committee also gave permission to Thavixay Construction Company to use the opposite area of the stadium to set up food booths and stalls to serve spectators.
“We want to separate product and food stalls into different areas so it's not too crowded and it's easier to keep the stadium orderly. We want to have stalls selling many different kinds of Lao and foreign dishes,” Mr Soutthanom said.
