Hoteliers help out at SEA Games Village
The Lao Hotel and Restaurant Association (Lao HRA) will help the SEA Games Village during the 25th SEA Games to be held in Vientiane from December 9-18.
The Lao HRA will provide items including soap, clothing and other supplies for use by staff who will work in the village.
More than 230 students and staff from Vientiane hotels will work in the village to provide athletes with necessary services.
The students are studying hotel management at the Faculty of Social Science of the National University of Laos (NUOL), while hotel staff have experience in this line of work. Both groups will be responsible for cleaning rooms.
The Lao HRA will hold a training course for the students next month before they begin work in the SEA Games Village .
Mrs Nouankeo said it was important to provide athletes and guests with a warm welcome so they enjoyed their stay in Laos .
She said teams and guests would be satisfied with the welcome they received and would be comfortable in the village.
The Lao SEA Games Organising Committee (LAOSOC) has a budget earmarked for this purpose, and announced last month that Meely Dry Cleaning will be responsible for laundering bedclothes.
The contract was agreed upon at a meeting held in Vientiane between the launderers and the SEA Games Accommodation, Food and Tour Committee.
The dry cleaners will be responsible for maintaining the highest possible standard of cleanliness for athletes and officials, as well as transporting items to and from places of accommodation.
LAOSOC will supply 88 washing machines and 48 dryers at the village for athletes to wash their sports kits.
Construction of the SEA Games Village at the NUOL in Dongdok village has been 100 percent on schedule since work began in July 2008, with LAOSOC handing over the facility earlier this month.
The Hoang Anh Gia Lai Company of Vietnam granted US$4 million and loaned US$15 million to the Lao government to build the SEA Games Village , where athletes from 11 countries will stay, up to four athletes to a room.
The village consists of eight 4-storey dormitories and will accommodate 4,000 athletes.
Athletes and hundreds of accompanying officials and staff will gather in Vientiane for the 25th SEA Games in December.
