Lao Telecom offers incentives for success  

The Lao Telecommunications Company (LTC) has provided 24 billion kip towards the 25th SEA Games, which kick off today in Vientiane .

The company has spent almost 100 million kip installing high-speed Internet facilities at the SEA Games Village , National Stadium, golf course, and other important venues for use during the games.

LTC held a press conference on Tuesday to announce its support for the games, which includes 30 million kip for each Lao athlete winning a gold medal, as well as 20 million kip and 10 million kip for silver and bronze medallists respectively.

The press conference was attended by Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the SEA Games Organising Committee, Mr Somsavat Lengsavad.

“We admire and appreciate the company's support of Lao athletes,” said Mr Somsavat.

He called on all 25 Lao sports federations to ensure their athletes are fully prepared for the games and to deliver them last minute messages of encouragement.

Mr Somsavat said solidarity between federations and athletes will be vital for success at the games.

LTC has provided 300 million kip to the weightlifting team to help them to prepare for the event.

President of the Lao Weightlifting Federation and Director General of Lao Telecommunications Company, Mr Thansamay Kommasith, said the company has supported sports federations that lacked adequate funding.

Mr Thansamay said the Lao weightlifting team has improved over the past year or so and has gained valuable experience at international events.

More than 500 Lao athletes will compete in the games, in the sports of water polo, diving, swimming, archery, badminton, billiards and snooker, boxing, cycling, football, golf, judo, karatedo, sepak takraw, shooting, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, beach volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, judo, taekwondo, fin swimming, muay, pencak silat, petanque, shuttlecock, and track and field.
