Study in Korea

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea is accepting applications for the 2020 Korean government scholarship graduate programme. Vientiane book festival

This event features more than a million books, from Laos and other countries. There will also be traditional performances by students, quizzes and a talk. Visitors can take part in painting, dancing, photo and short movie contests.

Photo Week

Photo Week is an event set up to highlight the work of a new generation of Lao photographers. The work of six photographers will be on display.
When: From February 14-22: Inauguration on February 17 at 5.30pm, Launch of national photo competition on February 14, Workshops by professionals on February 18 to 20, Street photo tour on February 18, Talk by the founder of Photo Phnom Penh on February 19, and screenings of films based on photography on February 21.

Lao Red Cross clothing appeal

Lao Red Cross is calling for public donations of new and second-hand blankets, clothing, gloves and socks for adults and children, as well as shoes and household essentials to help vulnerable communities around the country during the winter months.

Appeal for blood donations for dengue patients

The National Blood Transfusion Centre invites members of the public to give blood as this is urgently needed by hospitals for people suffering from dengue fever.

Poetry presentation

Join international award-wining poet Bryan Thao Worra for a presentation on “A World Imagined Lao”. He will also read selections from his new book, “Before We Remember We Dream”, with artist Nor Sanavongsay.

World hand drip coffee contest

Anyone who loves coffee and would like to be a barista can enter this contest. The winner will receive a trophy from the Association of Korea and have the chance to compete in an event in the Republic of Korea.

Buddha statue casting ceremony

Buddhists are invited to a ceremony to cast the 2.5m bronze Phachao Ong Teu image. Donations are requested for the renovation of the ordination hall at the temple along with donations of food, water and other items for charity.

People living in any of the five Mekong countries may apply for this two-week journalism exchange programme. Journalists will explore critical issues in the Mekong region, including water security and disinformation challenges. Cycle race

Don’t miss this cycling competition to mark the 11th National Games in Xieng Khuang province. Bring your bicycle and compete for a prize from the President of the Vientiane Cycling Federation. The government of India is offering scholarships for Lao students with good knowledge of English for undergraduate and postgraduate courses and doctoral studies in Indian universities.
When: Last date for receipt of printed online application form along with requisite documents is January 31. For Ph.D. courses the last date is July 31.

Free English Class

Flood victim appeal

Appeal for help for flood victims

You are invited to give generously to help thousands of families in Savvannaket, Saravan, Champassak, Attapeu and Xekong provinces who have suffered in the wake of widespread flooding. They need urgent help to meet their basic needs, including essentials such as food, drinking water and clothing.
