Free occupational training

Those who have graduated from primary school but haven’t finished secondary school and are still unemployed are encouraged to apply for a free three-month occupational training course. Selected candidates will receive a stipend of 800,000 kip a month, free dormitory accommodation and other benefits, but the participants must have their own vehicles to use during the training course. Asean-India research training fellowship

Scholars wanting to gain more research experience are invited to apply for the Asean-India Research Training fellowship. The fellowship allows young researchers to work at any Indian research/academic institution. The purpose is to support and facilitate mobility among talented young researchers of Asean member countries. For more information,

Scholarship for youth

Those aged between 18 and 25 years and residents of one of the Asean nations, Korea or Japan and wanting to make a career for themselves in the field of ICT are encouraged to apply for the Asean-Vietnam ICT Scholarship. Selected candidates will receive the full tuition fee, two round-trip airfares (on international flights), an establishment allowance, accommodation, a monthly stipend of 10,000,000 VND, health insurance and a bonus of US$100 for the annual Vietnamese Tet Holiday. Japanese scholarship

Applications have been invited for the Japanese government’s fully funded MEXT Scholarship 2021. The scholarship’s categories include Master’s degree, PhD, undergraduate, college, technology, and specialised training college.

When: Applications for Master’s degree and PhD must be submitted by July 17. Applications for undergraduate and college must be submitted by July 24. This year, research students will be enrolled from October for 2021 while undergraduate, college of technology and specialised training college students will start from April 2021.

Free boxing course

Girls and boys aged 13-17 are encouraged to learn Lao and international boxing styles, and kickboxing. Registration is free.

Short Movie Contest

Lao nationals can join the regional short movie contest “Digicon 6 Asia Award - Asia Supreme Short Movie Contest”, and have a chance of winning prizes and representing the country in contests in Japan and other nations. The contest is being organised by the Japan Foundation Asia Centre. Any topics or themes are acceptable, except political issues and content unsuitable for youth. All films submitted for this contest must be less than 15 minutes long. Singapore International Graduate Award

Those wanting to pursue PhD education in Singapore can apply for the Singapore International Graduate Award. The scholarship is open to all international graduates with a passion for research and excellent academic results, good skills in written and spoken English, and good reports from academic referees. Selected students will receive tuition fees, a monthly stipend of S$2,000, which will be increased to S$2,500 after they pass a qualifying examination, air fare and other grants. Where: Apply online. Covid-19 prevention equipment donation

 The Mutual Assistance Associations of People (MAAP) invites organisations and members of the public to contribute in the donation of equipment for Covid-19 prevention, such as temperature monitors, hand gel and face masks. For more information, call 020 98999823.

Chinese food cooking presentation

The China Cultural Center in Laos has begun airing the self-produced programme “Chinese Food Made by Lao” on its Facebook and Youtube channel. The programme showcases quick and simple Chinese recipes, and the story behind them. The first episode focuses on making rice dumplings, followed by the second episode on cooking Chinese hotpot soup base in a creative way. Participate in its lucky draw simply by leaving comments with your selfie while making the same recipes, and you might be the lucky dog to win a cash bonus or movie tickets.

Dhamma talk workshop

Interested persons can take part in a Dhamma talk workshop, during which they will be trained by many senior and professional speaking monks and ordinary speakers. Participants can learn about techniques and skills for speaking, self-confidence and bravery, building on speaking about Dhamma and other issues. Cycling competition

The Lao Bicycle Federation and the Lao Front for National Development invite cyclists to take part in a race to mark the Front’s 70th anniversary.

Where:  The 70km race runs from That Luang square to the Chao Fa Ngum statue, along the Mekong riverside and back to That Luang.

A boat racing competition to promote the local tourism sector will be held next week.

Buddhist retreat

Boys living in Vientiane aged 12-18 are invited to a monastic retreat to learn about the teachings of the Buddha. Devotees are invited to donate food and soft drinks.

Essay writing contest for students

Students currently enrolled in college and university, with valid student enrollment cards, can apply for an essay writing scholarship. Write a 1,000-word essay about talented women to have a chance to win a US$2,500 cash award for the best candidates. The scholarship has been started with the aim of highlighting the hidden talent of women with the motto “First woman to achieve big”. All the candidates, male/female, can participate but you need to find stories on those women who were the first ones to do certain projects ever.

Textbook donation

People having old textbooks that they no longer use but which are still in good condition, are invited to donate the textbooks to the Vientiane secondary school. The books will be kept in the school library or shared with other schools that don’t have enough textbooks.

Free occupational training for women

Women aged between 16 and 34 years who are currently not working can apply for a free training course in wig making. Selected participants will join the 40-day course with free accommodation and meals. After training, the participants who graduate will be employed and receive a salary ranging from 1.2 million kip to 3.12 million kip with welfare measures such as training courses. Lao Red Cross clothing appeal

Lao Red Cross is calling for public donations of new and second-hand blankets, clothing, gloves and socks for adults and children, as well as shoes and household essentials to help vulnerable communities around the country during the winter months.
