Photo contest

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment invites entries for a digital photo contest. Photos should feature environmental issues such as the way in which the environment is affected by human activity, climate change, environmental protection, and ways to adapt to the effects of climate change. The winner will receive 2 million kip.

Tree fair

The Vientiane Agriculture and Forestry Department and associated groups invite everyone to this event. It features a large variety of tree species, products of organic farming and hydroponic groups, and more than 100 booths.

Lao Red Cross clothing appeal

Lao Red Cross is calling for public donations of new and second-hand blankets, clothing, gloves and socks for adults and children, as well as shoes and household essentials to help vulnerable communities around the country during the winter months.

Donation of trees

Everyone is invited to donate trees for the upcoming National Arbor Day on June 1. The trees will be grown at the primary school in Mai village, Sikhottabong district, and the lower secondary school of Doung village, Xaysettha district, both in Vientiane. For more information call 020 29833363.
 Where: The donation will take place at the temple of Nongda village, Sikhottabong district, Vientiane.

Appeal for blood donations for dengue patients

The National Blood Transfusion Centre invites members of the public to give blood as this is urgently needed by hospitals for people suffering from dengue fever.
When: Register now from 8:30am-4pm

Appeal for help for flood victims

You are invited to give generously to help thousands of families in Savvannaket, Saravan, Champassak, Attapeu and Xekong provinces who have suffered in the wake of widespread flooding. They need urgent help to meet their basic needs, including essentials such as food, drinking water and clothing.
Where: The emergency appeal is organised by various organisations in Vientiane and the provinces.

National Children’s Day activities

Many activities will be organised to mark the National Children’s Day, which is observed on June 1. The activities for children will include playground, birthday, Hip Hop class, gymnastics, acrylic painting, polymer clay and ballet class. For more information, call 020 59669661.

International essay contest for youth

Youngsters under 25 can send their essay on the theme “A letter from myself in 2030” to compete in the 2020 International Essay Contest for Young People. The essay must be written in English, French, Spanish or German, and must not be more than 700 words, or it must not be more than 1,700 words if it is written in Japanese. There are many prizes for writers, while the winners will receive prizes of up to 100,000 JPY.

Scholarships in India

The government of India is offering scholarships for Lao students with good knowledge of English for undergraduate and postgraduate courses and doctoral studies in Indian universities.
When: Last date for receipt of printed online application form along with requisite documents is January 31. For Ph.D. courses the last date is July 31.

Flood victim appeal

Rescue 1624 in collaboration with Houng Aloun Logistics  invite members of the public to donate food, rice, clothes, medicines and other essentials to assist flood victims in the southern provinces. Donated food and medicines should have at least six-month expiry dates.
