Vientiane International Marathon

The first-ever Vientiane International Marathon (VIM2019) is coming this December 8.
Take part and make history! The challenging 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km courses will take you along cultural and historic streets of the capital, passing iconic landmarks to provide runners with a unique experience.

Indonesia Cultural Night

Lao Jazz concert

The French Institute of Laos in Vientiane is delighted to present the very first Lao jazz group ‘Lao Jazzanova’ including guitarist Fruity, bassist To, drummer Tom and singer Nuan for the 4th IFL Café Concert. Lao Jazzanova has performed their polished groove and swing at the International Jazz Festival in Vientiane and another event in Mongolia. Entrance is free.

Appeal for blood donations for dengue patients

The National Blood Transfusion Centre invites members of the public to give blood as this is urgently needed by hospitals for people suffering from dengue fever.

Student Essay Contest

The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is inviting students who love writing to enter the Student Essay Contest by writing on the topic: “Tell us your story of simple actions on how you think our actions are our future. Healthy diets for a zero hunger world.”
The contest is open to all secondary school, college, and university students in Laos. All essay winners will be contacted by the FAO Lao office and will receive cash prizes, surprise bags and certificates at the World Food Day event on October 16.

Luang Prabang Half Marathon - Run for Children 2019

Challenge yourself or simply enjoy running through the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage listed town as you help raise money during the Run for Children: Luang Prabang Half Marathon.
All funds raised will go to support the invaluable work of Lao Friends Hospital for Children. 21 km, 14 km and 7 km events to suit runners of all abilities.

Free rabies vaccines

The public are invited to bring their dogs, cats and other pet mammals to get free vaccines against rabies to mark World Rabies Day, which annually observes on September 28.

National Institute of Fine Arts event

To mark the start of a new academic year, the National Institute of Fine Arts is holding an exhibition featuring paintings, drawings, sculptures, monoprints, pottery, and others pieces created by students. The institute is also organising performances and a graduation ceremony for students.

Mister International Laos contest final

Join the final of Mister International Laos 2019 and cheer on your favourite contestant. The 20 entrants will show off their physical appearance, knowledge, talent and ability to the judging panel. The programme will also feature entertainment.

Appeal for help for flood victims

You are invited to give generously to help thousands of families in Savvannaket, Saravan, Champassak, Attapeu and Xekong provinces who have suffered in the wake of widespread flooding. They need urgent help to meet their basic needs, including essentials such as food, drinking water and clothing.
Where: The emergency appeal is organised by various organisations in Vientiane and the provinces.

Chinese cultural week

The event will feature various activities for children such as painting Chinese style, learning about Chinese culture, and browsing the Chinese artworks, among others. Entrance is free.

Japanese scholarships

Applications are now being accepted for the JDS Scholarship Programme for Master’s Degrees, which will be awarded to 20 Lao government officials. Mister International Laos contest

The nation’s young gentlemen are invited to apply for this contest. Applicants must be aged 18-28, at least 175 cm tall and have English language skills. The winner will have the chance to represent Laos at the Mister International contest later this year.

Appeal for flood victims

Rescue 1624 in collaboration with Houng Aloun Logistics are inviting members of the public to donate food, rice, clothes, medicines and other necessary items to assist flood victims in the southern provinces. Donated food and medicines should have at least six-month expiry dates.

Japanese Culture Day

Get a taste of Japanese culture by trying on a yukata (a Japanese summer outfit), doing origami (paper folding), furosiki (wrapping in cloth), shodo (Japanese calligraphy), playing Shogi (a Japanese board game), and playing with Japanese traditional toys, as well as singing and dancing, a talk show, Japanese quiz, aikido demonstration, and a talk on the kimono.

Visit Tadxon waterfall for the Ancestor Festival

Tadxon waterfall is welcoming those who want some fun after giving alms at temples to celebrate the Ancestor Festival on September 24.
Visitors will be served free grilled chicken at picnic huts, made from chickens raised at the site. Activities include forest walks and a tour of the Chao Souphanouvong Cave, where President Souphanouvong and other Lao leaders took refuge after escaping from Phonkheng jail in 1959 during the Indochina war. The site has 111 huts, 40 guesthouse rooms, and 11 elephants providing rides. There is also a 3,700 metre cable car ride that takes visitors to a rocky hilltop.

Blood donation for food victims

The National Blood Transfusion Centre in Vientiane invites everyone to donate blood to assist floodvictims in Attapeu province.
