Lao Front pushes mass unity to boost national development

The Lao Front for National Development (LFND) is committed to strengthening solidarity and harmony among all ethnic Lao people in a bid to spur national development and alleviate poverty.
Addressing the opening ceremony of a nationwide meeting in Vientiane yesterday, the President of the Lao Front for National Development, Dr Xaysomphone Phomvihane, stressed the significant role played by the LFND in unifying all forces throughout the country for national protection and development.

He said the evidence shows that the great accomplishment of national liberation in 1975 was the outcome of mass unity mobilised by the LFND.
But solidarity is even more important today as Laos strives to graduate from Least Developed Country status in the next 4-5 years.
To accelerate national development, the LFND has been urged to do more to encourage harmony and mutual assistance among ethnic people, motivate them to strengthen their spirit of patriotism and take part in turning the resolutions of the 10th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party into reality.
Attended by representatives from all provinces, the two-day meeting is part of activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the Lao Front for National Development on August 13.
The meeting takes place as Laos struggles to address economic and financial difficulties triggered by the coronavirus pandemic and the impact of natural disasters.
LFND Vice President Mr Khambay Damlath presented a report on the notable achievements of the Lao Front over the past year and plans to be accomplished in the year to come.
Over the past year, the Lao Front for National Development has helped train state employees, businesspeople and people of Lao origin living overseas so that they understand the Party and government’s policies and laws. It has encouraged them to take part in national protection and development in parallel with the implementation of the government’s poverty reduction programme.
In addition, the Lao Front has pushed for the establishment of more solidarity families and unity villages in a bid to build a peaceful society by creating conditions that enable people to make a living and run businesses.
Mr Khambay said the LFND also plays a role in overseeing the performance of members of parliament as well as members of people’s councils and judicial organisations.
The Lao Front was established on August 13, 1950, when it was known as the Lao Front of Liberty, later becoming the Lao Front of Patriots. After Laos achieved liberation in 1975, the organisation was given the name it holds today.
The Lao Front for National Development is the face of national unity, socio-political relations, and voluntary unity. It was established to represent the socio-political and personal wishes of all Lao people, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or age.
Every year, the Lao Front makes a special effort to inform the public about its work and achievements and the ways in which it supports public interests.
