Ministry pledges fair promotion of personnel

The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has pledged to select competent young people for promotion so that the ministry is able to fulfil its assigned function and has a capable leadership.
The minister, Prof. Dr Kikeo Khaykhamphithoun, made the pledge at a meeting of ministry leaders, core officials and retired officials held on October 9.
The meeting was convened to garner opinions on the ministry’s development, especially concerning the best use of personnel. One retiree, Mrs Yommala

Vongchandy, who was formerly Director General of the Organisational-Personnel Department, shared her experiences of personnel development and made suggestions for future directions to be taken.
The ministry’s former Party Secretary and former Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Prof. Dr Bosengkham Vongdara also took to the floor to highlight the achievements made in leading the ministry’s mission in past years and made recommendations concerning current requirements.
Prof. Dr Kikeo praised the work done by retired officials, which he said had advanced the development of this sector.
He stressed that the ministry’s core officials should improve standards by promoting capable young civil servants to take the place of retirees, the Pasaxon newspaper reported.
In order to bring about change, every civil servant should be given a position that makes use of the subjects they have studied and are familiar with.
He advised that officials selected for promotion must be capable of doing the new jobs assigned to them, saying the selection process should be transparent and not based on special relationships.
The minister also said that personnel management should comply with the regulations and that both heads and subordinates should be subject to the same rules.
Prof. Dr Kikeo promised to take into account the recommendations made by retired officials in his attempts to improve the work of the ministry.
