Phangern peak attracts adventurous to Vangvieng

Phangern cliff, located in the famous tourism destination of Vangvieng district in Vientiane province is a tourism site for people of an adventurous nature.
The limestone peak of Phangern is too not far from the centre of Vangvieng district and provides a hike of limited length yet plenty of exercise for the calf muscles.
A fairly leisurely drive from the capital to Vangvieng district takes around three or four hours by car.
It’s well known that there are many beautiful mountains in the district that you can readily see when you arrive in the area during daylight hours or under a full moon.

One of the smaller is Phangern cliff, an attraction of the province allowing one to feel at one with the wonderful vista from above.
At the summit you will be able to see a bird’s eye view of the expansive and remarkable natural and agricultural landscape and toward the district’s main township and beyond.
Phangern Mountain is easy to find as it is close to other popular tourism sites of the district.
It is found on the way to the Blue Lagoon and Tham Pou Kham cave located near the village of Ban Na Thong about six kilometres from Vangvieng’s main township.
The mountain is proving increasingly attractive to foreign and domestic tourists and local people alike as they explore adventure and outdoor sports activities on offer.
You can best get to the base of the peak by bicycle, motorbike, tuk tuk or pick-up truck and car from the town.
Renting a bicycle is about 20,000 - 30,000 Kip for a day or 50,000-60,000 kip a day for motorbike.
The peak is not the sole attraction for tourists, but also lifestyle of local people, landscape and beautiful spots along two sides of the road to the mountain are also attractive for them to stop to get nice shot or selfie for family, friends and followers on social media alike.
It is about 3 kilometres from the wooden bridge over the Nam Xong to the entrance to Phangern cliff.
After passing the bridge you will see a large blue wooden sign on the right for the primary school in Phone Ngeun village.
Turn right here and after after around five minutes drive you will get to the starting point for the hike.
The entry ticket for this adventure and priceless view is set at the remarkably good value amount of just 5,000 Kip per a person.
The climb to the top of Phangern cliff takes an average of around 40 minutes.
However, you should keep walking step by step because the path is irregular with a decent gradient and combination of soil and rock.
When you arrive at the top, you need not worry about the location of your drinking water.
There is a kiosk cooler service to serve drinks and snacks while you take in the amazing sights and awe inspiring vistas.
Meanwhile, you will forget any tiredness climbing to the top when the breeze refreshes you as you take in the wonderful views from the top.
At sunset, it is also good time for visitors to take a nice photo or two while the sunlight is not too hot.
After you head back down to ground level, you can also enjoy the opportunity to swimming at the blue lagoon at nearby Pou Kham cave.
According to a report from the district tourist office, the number of tourist arrivals in Vangvieng district exceeded 500,000 people last year.
Vangvieng district boasts a variety of natural tourism sites, is dotted with caves and beautiful waterfalls, all received with a lot of satisfaction by foreign visitors.
In 2016, Vientiane province had registered 152 officially designated tourist sites.
Some 132 sites have been deemed places of natural beauty, 15 considered cultural attractions, and five listed as places of historical interest.
