Today, Phoukhaokhuay Water Garden is surrounded the greenness of new- growth of grass and young leaves on the tops of the trees, together adding to the charm of this tourist site in the wet season.
In this season also, there are many small streams flowing through the forest of big and small trees, and these streams merge together at the rocky area, creating many beautiful small water-falls.

Water flowing from the forest falling onto the rock, creating many small waterfalls in Phoukhaokhuay water garden.

Phoukhaokhuay Water Garden is located in Phoukhaokhuay Mai village, Thoulakhom district, Vientiane province. This place is convenient for anyone who does not want to travel for a long time but still wants to have the opportunity to be able to spend time in a beautiful green natural area enjoying the beauty of the location with its river, small waterfalls, and trees both large and small.
It takes around one hour to reach Phoukhaokhuay, driving north by car from Vientiane. The road access to the site is completely asphalted and fully accessible to visitors all year round, and has a large car park which is free-of-charge too.
Thoulakhom is one of 11 districts that make up Vientiane province, with this district helping to attract more tourists to visit the province and indeed the number of tourist arrivals is increasing every year. According to the 2015 Statistical Report on Tourism in Laos, there were 345,772 tourist arrivals in Vientiane province in 2015, which was up from 136, 088 tourist arrivals in 2013.
In addition to natural tourist sites, Thoulakhom district also has a wide range of places to visit and Vientiane province itself has 103 natural tourist sites, 11 cultural tourist sites, and five historical tourist sites.
Phoukhaokhuay Water Garden was opened in April this year, which is when Lao people celebrate Pi Mai Lao (Lao New Year). Since then, there have been more and more tourists coming to visit this garden. This is, perhaps, because it is not too far from the capital with the garden located about 10 km from Thoulakhom district downtown.
There are many fun activities for visitors to Phoukhaokhuay to enjoy safely within the fenced garden. These activities include riding a duck boat in the clean river going nature sightseeing, and the river is not too deep making it an ideal place for visitors to swim.
The garden has many small streams that flow from high above the river down over the rocks to the river below. As they fall, they form cascades and small waterfalls, forming wisps of white mist as the water flows over the rocks. These wisps of mist over the rocks usually are a source of great delight to visitors to the water garden.
Various big trees around the garden provide shady areas for tourists to relax and listen to the sweet sound of crickets, birds singing, and the wind blowing through the leaves of the trees. The garden also has some hutches for rabbits, and they are enjoyed by families and tour groups alike.
Phoukhaokhuay Water Garden is popular among domestic and international tourists, and provides a relaxing escape from their busy working days and is an even better choice if they decide to take a weekend holiday to relax at the garden.
The garden opens on Saturdays, Sundays and important national days and festivities, such as Lao New Year, International Women’s Day and International Children’s Day. It is open at 10am to 6pm. However, the owner of the garden is expecting to open this garden every day, as soon as a couple of small construction projects are finished.
