Huawei kicks off global CSR program “Seeds for the Future 2.0” in Laos for ICT talent cultivation

Huawei Laos kicked off the “Seeds for the Future 2021” on September 21, 2021. Top officials from the ministries of Education and Sports and Technology and Communications attended the online opening ceremony.
This program initiated in Laos with the signing of MOU on the cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Sports and Huawei Technologies (Laos) Sole Co., Ltd. in 2016.

Each year, the program will select more than 10 outstanding students to participate in the program to learn about latest ICT knowledge and Chinese culture. The main purpose of the project is to cultivate the capacity of ICT promote the transfer of knowledge, increase participants’ understanding and interest in the field of ICT industry, as well as to encourage countries and regions to participate in building digital communities.
The “Seed for the Future” project is Huawei's global flagship CSR program for education. It focuses on long-term collaboration in the field of traditional culture education and advanced ICT knowledge such as 5G, AI, Cloud Computing, and HMS Core Introduction. The key point of the project is to leverage Huawei's technical advantages and vast experience in the ICT industry to train ICT talents for better technology era development.
The ceremony was inaugurated by CEO of Huawei Technologies (Laos) Sole Co., Ltd Mr, Kevin Hu, and co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, Dr Sourioudong Sundala, Dr Santisouk Simmalavong, Deputy Minister of Technology and Communications, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Laos, Dr Somphone Kanthavong.

Dr Sourioudong said at the opening ceremony that Huawei Technologies is one of the world's leading companies in the field of ICT and technology innovation that has spread around the world.
 “We appreciate Huawei for supporting the education sector and development of human resources for Laos, especially the creation of opportunities for Lao students to learn knowledge in the field of culture and ICT especially reminds to the students who have been given this opportunity, please focus on gathering knowledge because you all will be the ones who will continue the mission of the senior generation to develop the nation in the future,” he said.
Following that, Dr Santisouk also praised to Huawei for creating the opportunity to provide the cutting-edge ICT skills to Lao students, who are the seeds of the nation that will become the country's great human resources in the future.
“Finally, I would like to wish all of you success in your personal life and work, and I hope all the students who have been given such a good opportunity to study hard and digest knowledge to upgrade your skills and develop the nation in the future,” he added
During his remarks, Mr Kevin Hu expressed gratitude to the Lao government and ceremony co-chairs.
“ICT has become an important growth driver in many industries. As a global leader in ICT, Huawei is committed to promoting the development of the ICT industry in order to promote long-term economic and social sustainability. We hope that this event will enable students to gain knowledge and upgrade their ICT skills to be applied to their careers, as well as to drive the nation's socio-economic development,” Kevin Hu said.
As global leading ICT infrastructure and smart devices provider, Huawei is committed to helping develop digital talent in the countries where it operates.
In 2008, Huawei began to roll out talent development programs, through scholarships, technology competitions, and digital skills training, and has invested more than US$150 million in these programs. Huawei has since benefited more than 1.54 million people from over 150 countries.
Huawei in July announced its Seeds for the Future Program 2.0, through which Huawei plans to invest US$150 million in digital talent development globally over the next five years.
This program is expected to benefit more than 3 million additional people.
