KOICA provides COVID-19 prevention supplies to Vangvieng ethnic school

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Office in Laos recently donated emergency supplies for the prevention of COVID-19 to the Ethnic School in Vangvieng district, Vientiane province to support students and teachers in the fight against the virus.
Deputy Resident Representative of the KOICA Office, Ms Yong Jeong Kim and team delivered the equipment directly to the school in Vientiane province recently coinciding with the recommencement of classes following the recent lockdown.
The supplies included face masks, hand sanitiser, hand wash, thermometers, stationery and kitchen utensils for the students and teachers, according to a press release from KOICA.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ms Yong Jeong Kim said, “Congratulations to all students and teachers coming back to school with good health. The purpose of this donation is to strengthen and support the school supplies for the prevention of COVID-19.”
She also emphasised the need for students to keep sanitising and washing their hands to prevent a reoccurrence of the coronavirus.
Director of the Vientiane province Ethnic School, Mr Phonesavanh Soukanya said, “I would like to thank you and appreciate KOICA’s consideration in supporting the school. We will follow the rules for preventing COVID-19 and stay healthy”.
KOICA hopes the donation will assist the school and students to prevent infectious diseases and keep their study environment healthy.
Vientiane Ethnic School was established in Vieng-Sa-Mai Village, Vangvieng district, Vientiane province in 2009 when KOICA supported grant aid to construct a secondary school catering for grades 1-7.
Currently, 62 teachers (including 26 women) educate 809 students (281 girls) enrolled at the school with 742 students (257 girls) staying in the dormitories, and 67 students living nearby.
This ethnic school supports students from various cultural groups of Xaysomboun and Vientiane provinces. Most come from poor families and have been given the opportunity to study at the school and improve themselves.
