New case of Covid-19 confirmed in Champassak

Another case of Covid-19 has been confirmed after a 25-year-old woman tested positive on his return to Champassak province, after entering Laos from Thailand.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control under the Ministry of Health, Dr Phonepaseuth Xayamoungkhoun, said the woman arrived in Champassak on April 8.

She was taken to a quarantine facility at Km21 in Outhomphone district, where he was tested for Covid-19 on April 13. The following day a positive test result was returned and he was admitted to the provincial hospital.
The 18 people who had accompanied the woman, or had been in close contact with her, tested negative for the virus but will remain in quarantine for 14 days.
With the number of known cases in Laos now standing at 53, the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control has advised people not to become complacent and to act with caution.
Two other people who were found to be carrying the virus after entering Laos from Thailand have now been discharged from Phonthong Hospital in Champassak province. They have returned home after twice testing negative for Covid-19.
The government has stepped up measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 as ordered by the Prime Minister's Office after a fresh surge in infections in Thailand.
Everyone is urged to observe social distancing, wash their hands regularly, and to wear a face mask when in a crowded place.
In general, only Lao nationals may enter Laos. Uniform standards of self-monitoring and quarantine are required for the staff of international organisations, business executives, and general workers after entering the country.
Authorities are also screening passengers arriving in Laos on charter flights to ensure they have not come from a country that has a community outbreak of Covid-19.
