Lao Telecom celebrates 29 years of success
Lao Telecommunications Public Company, a leading telecommunications provider, held a ceremony on November 14 to celebrate its 29 years of growth and development.
Since its establishment on November 11, 1996, the company has played a key role in building a robust telecommunications infrastructure across the country, supporting the economy and serving the needs of society.
To implement the Party and State’s policy to attract foreign investment, Lao Telecommunications Public Company began operation as a joint venture between Lao Telecom and Shinawatra Telecom Company Limited. The Lao government holds 51 percent of shares, while Singapore’s Sennington Investment Company holds 49 percent.
The celebration took place at the company’s headquarters, attended by the Minister of Technology and Communications, Prof. Dr Boviengkham Vongdara, deputy ministers, general directors of ministry departments, representatives of foreign shareholders, and employees of the Lao Telecom Group.
Another 254 invited guests and representatives from provincial branches also attended, bringing the total to more than 2,000 people.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of Lao Telecommunications Public Company, Mr Souphol Chanthavixay, said the ceremony was an opportunity to evaluate and summarise the achievements of the company over the past 29 years.
Guided by the Party Committee and leadership, the company has overcome numerous difficulties and challenges, steadily growing both in scale and quality. This has enabled the continual development and modernisation of telecommunications infrastructure.
Over the past 29 years, Lao Telecom has expanded its service coverage nationwide. Currently, the company offers comprehensive telecommunications services, including Mobile Broadband via 4G, 4.5G, and 5G networks and international roaming, and is the first in Laos to provide roaming services across ASEAN countries and globally in a single package.
The company also offers Fixed Broadband and M-Money X electronic wallet services.
To adapt to the digital era, Lao Telecom has implemented various projects utilising AI, IoT, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and Blockchain, and has developed platforms such as M-Money X, the M Services app, My TPLUS app, and the HR Platform.
Furthermore, Lao Telecom has established monitoring and troubleshooting centres certified by international ISO standards to ensure 24/7 network quality.
The company also operates service centres across the country to offer convenient access to its products and services. Alongside its business operations, Lao Telecom actively promotes social welfare initiatives aimed at improving the living standards of employees and the community.
Notable achievements in 2025 included the signing of cooperation agreements, such as M-Money X joining Lapnet and an MOU with Visapay of Vietnam to advance digital finance, as well as expanding the company’s digital finance access in Laos.
Lao Telecom also partnered with the Secretariat of the Telecommunications Development Fund to launch a venture that will make telecoms signals available in remote areas where coverage is currently lacking. The company has also launched live broadcasts of the English Premier League via the Monomax app in Laos.
Over the past 29 years, Lao Telecom has contributed more than 168 billion kip to society, including more than 66 billion kip for the health sector, 5.43 billion kip for education, 2.5 billion kip to support the Party Congress, and 7.16 billion kip for disaster relief. A highlight in 2024 was its contribution of 12 billion kip to the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits hosted by Laos.
Committed to service development and social support, Lao Telecom has received numerous awards, both nationally and internationally, including the ITU ASEAN Excellence Award, WSIS Prize (2025), the 9th ASEAN Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2024), the ASEAN Telecom Infrastructure Developer of the Year (2024), and a Stevie Award for Technology Excellence (2024).
Minister of Technology and Communications, Prof. Dr Boviengkham Vongdara, praised Lao Telecom’s achievements over the years, emphasising its ability to meet society’s needs by continuously developing telecommunications infrastructure throughout the country.
He highlighted the importance of preparing for the future by becoming the top provider of comprehensive telecommunications services in Laos.
The minister also stressed the importance of aligning with digital development plans, with a focus on improving service quality and personnel development.
He called on the Party Committee, Board of Directors, executives, and employees at all levels to enhance their awareness, responsibilities, and professionalism to ensure Lao Telecom meets the demands of the rapidly evolving technology landscape and supports national and regional integration.
