Senior officials from the Ministry of Public Security on Sunday gather to lay a wreath at the Unknown Solider Monument and a basket of flowers at the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum in Vientiane to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the public security force on April 5. The ceremony was led by the Minister of Public Security, Lieutenant General Vilay Lakhamfong. Numerous police departments and units, as well as thousands of police officers, were given promotions and awards last week for their work in the field of national defence and security over the past 10 years.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, General Chansamone Chanyalath, Minister of Public Works and Transport and Chairman of the National Road Safety Committee, Dr Viengsavath Siphandone, and senior ministry officials gather at the That Luang esplanade on Saturday morning for an event to mark Road Safety Week 2021. Officials rode motorbikes from the esplanade to the 450 Year Road and back, with the event sponsored by several companies. After the bike ride, officials visited booths set up on the esplanade and Vientiane Secondary School pupils took part in a quiz.

Representatives of development partners and donors last week visit Xieng Khuang province to better understand about UXO clearance operations and acknowledge donor contributions. The visit was led by Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Padeumphone Sonthany, and Director General of the National Regulatory Authority (NRA) for UXO/Mine Action Sector under the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Chomyaeng Phengthongsawath. The visitors understand about the impacts of UXO on local communities, the need to raise awareness about the dangers of UXO, and the need for more resources to address the remaining unexploded ordnance issues.
