Laos, China vow to further enhance cooperation ## Final year students back in classrooms


- Utilities reduce electricity and water tariffs for households
The state-run Electricite Du Lao (EDL) and Vientiane Water Supply State Enterprise have cut power and water tariffs by three and five percent respectively to help people cope with the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.
The reduced tariffs, which will be valid for three months, will cost the enterprises billions of kip in revenue losses.

- City authorities issue fire warnings
A house fire has prompted Vientiane authorities to request people to check their electrical appliances and replace old wiring and other electrical equipment, after numerous fires have been blamed on electrical faults.
The Vientiane Fire Prevention and Protection Police Department said that most of the fires that have broken out this year are thought to have been caused by electrical faults, especially in hot weather when overheating can occur.
Authorities in Xaythany district, Vientiane, are currently investigating the cause of a blaze that swept through a two-storey house in Danxang village last week, and suspect that the fire was again the result of an electrical fault. .....More >>>

Final year students have returned to classrooms after education authorities approved the reopening of schools in areas with no new Covid-19 infections. A growing number of students of Grade 5 in primary schools and Grades 4 and 7 in secondary schools in Vientiane and several provinces are taking part in special classes in major subjects after the Ministry of Education and Sports recently announced dates for final examinations in primary and secondary schools. .....More >>>

Vendors at Beung Thatluang market in Vientiane will have easier access to finance after the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) has offered to make funding available from its SME Centre during the Covid-19 pandemic.
