Assoc. Prof. Dr Som Ock Kingsada (fifth left), the President of the Lao-German Friendship Association (LGFA) and representatives of the German-Lao Friendship Society (GLFS) on Friday give 45 million kip to Minister of Health Dr Bounfeng Phoummalaisith (sixth right) to support the response to the Covid outbreak. Also present were the vice president and members of the LGFA and the directors of four Vientiane hospitals. The donation included 3,000 Euros donated by the German people through the GLFS while the remainder was donated by members of the LGFA. Mittaphab, Mahosot, 103 and Setthathirath hospitals will each be given 10 million kip while 5 million kip will go to temporary hospitals. Dr Bounfeng, on behalf of the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control and the directors and staff of the hospitals, thanked the two groups for the generous donation, which will be used to buy medical supplies and pay for other expenses during the Covid outbreak, saying the donation reflected the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Germany.

Representatives of the Maum Donghaeng Foundation of the Republic of Korea on Friday handed over supplies to the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism for use in the battle against the Covid 19 outbreak. The donated items included face masks, gels, spray and bottles of alcohol hand-rub worth 22.6 million kip. The foundation representative handed over the supplies to Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mr Savankhone Razmountry for use in response to the virus outbreak.

Representatives of the Women’s Business Association, Lao Journalists’ Association and Lao Handicraft Association on Wednesday hand over rice, noodles, drinking water and other supplies worth 29 million kip to Vientiane Drug Treatment and Vocational Training Centre. The donated items will be used by officials working at the Centre and people undergoing treatment and training there.  --Photo Lao National Radio

The Governor of Phouvong district in Attapeu province, Mr Soulichan Xokkhamchan, villagers and officials on Friday plant trees to mark International Arbour Day on June 1. This year they plan to plant about 45,000 saplings on 25 hectares. In 2020, district officials grew 45,700 saplings to plant on 19 hectares. The district, provincial Agriculture and Forestry Department and local companies are working to reforest 350 hectares in total.    --Photo Pathetlao
