- Lumpy skin disease outbreak reported in Attapeu
The outbreak of lumpy skin disease in cattle is continuing, with Attapeu province recently reporting that 4,300 cattle had developed the viral infection. Deputy Director of the Attapeu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr Phetthanongsack Khamphounvong, said the province has recorded the largest outbreak of the disease, with more than 4,300 animals falling sick. So far, more than 380 have been cured, 60 have died, and some animals are being treated.

Least developed countries (LDCs) require technical and financial assistance and help from other nations to develop human resources so that they can overcome key challenges.
This was one of the messages delivered by the Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, at the High-Level Regional Review of the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) for least developed countries, which is being held during August 30-September 2.
- Covid-19 measures intensified in 15-day extension
The government has extended Covid-19 prevention and control measures for another 15 days until September 15, with some measures being strengthened. The Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday issued a notice to extend and reinforce the virus control measures.
Meetings, training courses and other activities including traditional and ritual events involving more than 20 people are prohibited. In essential cases, permission must be given by a Covid-19 taskforce before such events are organised.
