Nam Phay Power Company generates 2 billion kWh of electricity

The Nam Phay hydropower plant has generated 2 billion kWh of electricity since production began in November 2017.
A report on the success of the project was presented at a ceremony to celebrate the Nam Phay Power Company’s milestone production of 2 billion kWh of power.
The ceremony was chaired by Minister of Energy and Mines Dr Daovong Phonekeo and co-chaired by the Vice President of NORINCO International Cooperation Ltd. and Chairman of the Board of Namphay Power Company Limited, Mr Du Xiaodong.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Daovong said the electricity-generating project had the potential to significantly boost economic and social development in Xaysomboun province, as well as providing improved infrastructure for the local community.
The hydropower plant had helped to improve the standard of living for local people and enabled them to lead better lives, he added.
Mr Du Xiaodong said the Nam Phay hydropower plant, which is located in Longchaeng district, has a large reservoir and requires only a small amount of water to produce a lot of electricity, with a high water head 720m.
The main function of the project is electricity generation, but it is also yielding benefits for local development. The project operator is able to regulate the production of electricity throughout the year and can guarantee a supply of electricity in the dry season to supply the Lao power grid.
The plant has an installed capacity of 86MW and can produce 417 million kWh of electricity a year.
The project has been generating electricity for more than five years, producing a total of 2 billion kWh to date. Compared to coal-fired power plants, it saves 612,000 tons of coal and reduces carbon emissions by about 1,676,000 tons, or the equivalent of planting trees on an area of 6,600 hectares.
The Nam Phay hydropower project not only promotes economic development in the local area but can also preserve resources and protect the environment.
