Huaphan highlights aplenty for Visit Laos Year launch

Huaphan is set to kick off its official launch of Visit Laos Year 2018 from May 17-19 with numerous interesting activities to entice  visitors to the province.
Deputy Director of the province’s Department of Information, Culture and Tourism, MrPhouvanhPhetmixay, told Vientiane Times yesterday that on the first day, Huaphan will hold a sports contest and walk for health in the morning followed by an art show, market fair, and local food and products exhibition from 10 districts in the evening.

“The second day of the festivities will be marked by a celebration of the city pillar along with an almsgiving ceremony on the last day at Khamxay village in Xamneua district,” he added.
For Visit Laos Year 2018 Huaphan province is organising 18 events including Lao New Year festivities, Tai Deng ethnic festival, Huaphan-Son La tourism week, Crystal City Pillar festival, Boun Pa Khang Na (fish jumping in rice fields), boat racing, and the 50th anniversary of Viengxay district.
A celebration to mark the liberation of PhaThi during the Indochina War also took place earlier this month and was considered an outstanding event.
Popular natural attractions in Huaphan include the Sleuy waterfall in Xamneua district, the Hintang archaeological site in Huameuang district, Nam Neun Night Safari, Nam Et-Phouleuy National Protected Area, Tadloun waterfall, Hiem hot springs, Tham Hang cave, Nam Meuang hot springs, Tad Kone waterfall, and Phavang waterfall in Xam Tai district.
MrPhouvanh said about 49,000 tourists visited the province last year and generated about 34 billion kip in revenue for the local economy.
More than half of visitors to Huaphan in recent years were foreigners, with Vietnamese tourists topping arrivals. The province shares a border with Vietnam and Xamneua, the provincial capital, is not far from the border.
“Some 50,000 tourists are forecast to visit Huaphan this year due to the province organising more interesting activities than last year,” MrPhouvanh said.
Huaphan has 152 officially designated tourist sites, of which 51 are nature-based, 35 are of cultural interest, and 66 are historical, with 54 of these sites open to the public.
