Huaphan set to develop tourist sites in three districts

Huaphan province has authorised local companies to develop amenities at three waterfalls in as many districts as well as Phathi cliff in Xamneua district, a popular historical site, as part of efforts to attract more tourists.
The waterfalls are Tad Namnua in Viengxay district, Tad Kon in Xon district and Tad Saleuy in Xamneua district.
he development of the waterfalls and Phathi cliff is expected to be completed in 2020, official of the Tourism Section of Huaphan’s Information, Culture and Tourism Department, MrKhamphoneXaysavanh, told Vientiane Times yesterday.
The development of the Phathi cliff site will include the construction of 1,084 ladders, and the addition of activities such forest treks, picnic spots, visits to historic sites and a viewpoint on the cliff located at the height of 500 metres.
The development of the waterfalls will focus on identifying suitable facilities that blend with the natural beauty of the sites and the lifestyle of residents.
The main challenges for attracting more tourists to Huaphan include the difficulty in accessing some tourist sites located in remote and mountainous areas and the lack of sufficient development of some places.
Many sites also don’t have set additional activities and have not been extensively advertised.
The most popular tourist sites in the province include the historic cave in Viengxay district, Phathi cliff, the hot spring waters of Hiem district, and Tad Namnua and Tad Saleuy waterfalls.
“The province recorded 25,255 visitors during the first six months of this year. The number of visitors last year was 50,154, up from 40,519 in 2016,” the official said.
Huaphan province has 152 officially designated tourist attractions, including 51 natural sites, 66 cultural sites and 35 historic sites. It has ten hotels with 220 rooms, and 58 guesthouses and resorts with 880 rooms according to figures from the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
