Nam Ngum riverside, cruising among city’s natural attractions

The capital plans to promote natural tourist sites and exciting activities especially in the area of Nam Ngum riverbank in Xaythany district to attract more visitors.
Authorities inspected natural tourist sites in the area of Nam Ngum riverbank to collect information on their current status and to plan activities to promote nature-based tourism.
Vientiane Mayor, Dr Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune told local media recently that the authorities will increase development of the natural tourist sites in the capital.
It will also increase travel options by boat.

He said the capital has many beautiful natural sites but those in Vientiane was sometimes less accessible or well known to travelers than those in northern and southern provinces.
An official of Vientiane Information, Culture and Tourism Department said Nam Ngum riverside area boasts traditional culture as well as the lifestyle of local ethnic groups.
Nam Ngum riverbank also has a protected area of some 32 hectares, the most significant such locale in the capital.
Visitors can revel in the fresh air and beautifully natural surrounds.
Get in touch with the local people and charming lifestyle that includes fishing and farming on the Nam Ngum river.
Besides beautiful natural sites, Vientiane also has cultural and historical places of interest, including the That Luang Grand Stupa, which is an enduring symbol of Laos and an icon of Buddhism in the region.
Hor Pha Keo, Vat Simeuang and Vat Sisaket temples are steeped in history as well as being architecturally fascinating.
The town centre also has the famed Patouxay monument that rises majestically, challenging the energetic to climb to the top for a panoramic view.
The nation’s capital, Vientiane is centrally located in Laos and is easy to get around and access, whether arriving at the international airport by air or overland by road or rail via the Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, more than 1.7 million people visited the nation’s capital in 2016.
The city has 207 hotels, 426 guesthouses and resorts, 93 restaurants, and 83 entertainment venues so visitors can expect to find plenty of interest around town.
