New Lao ambassador to Japan takes post

New Lao ambassador to Japan Mr Viroth Soundara last week presented his credentials to Emperor Akihito of Japan at the Tokyo's Imperial Palace in officially taking his diplomatic post in the country.

After the presentation ceremony, a dicussion between His Majesty the Emperor Akihito and Ambassador Viroth took place.

His Majesty the Emperor said he valued highly this diplomatic mission of the Lao ambassador.

He expressed his confidence in the continuously enriched friendship and cooperative ties between the two countries.

The Lao ambassador has passed the greetings of President Bounnhang Vorachit to His Majesty and members of the Royal Family, and through His Majesty to all people of Japan.

Laos and Japan established the diplomatic relations on March 5, 1955. Since then, Laos has appointed 14 ambassadors to Japan.

Taking the post, Mr Viroth became the ninth Lao plenipotentiary ambassador to Japan. He has committed to expend all his efforts for successful diplomatic relations, promoting and strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries, especially to deepen the strategic partnership to bring outcomes and benefits to the two nations.
