President expresses sympathy to Myanmar

President Choummaly Sayasone yesterday sent a message of sympathy to the Chairman of the Myanmar State Peace and Development Council, Senior General Than Shwe, over the devastation wrought in Myanmar by cyclone Nargis, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“I would like to express my sympathy, after learning on May 2, 2008, that Cyclone Nargis entered Myanmar and caused great loss of life and property damage among the people of Myanmar .”

The President, on behalf of himself, the government and the people of the Lao PDR, expressed regret and sympathy to Senior General Than Shwe as well as the people of Myanmar , particularly the families of the victims.

“I believe that under the care of the State Peace and Development Council as well as the government of Myanmar , that the damaged areas will soon be restored to normal.”
