Govt awards medal to outstanding Chinese official

The government has awarded a Friendship Medal to the President of the Yunnan provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Mrs Zhou Hong, for her outstanding contribution to furthering cooperation between China and Laos.
The medal awarded to Mrs Zhou Hon, who is the former Head of the Cooperation Office of the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan province, was presented by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Khamphao Ernthavanh, on behalf of the Lao government.
The medal presentation ceremony was held on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vientiane and witnessed by officials from Laos and China.
Mrs Khamphao on behalf of the government congratulated and highly valued the achievements of Mrs Zhou and her important role in contributing to developing the Laos-China comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation in the spirit of good neighbours, good friends, good comrades and good partners, in particular the cooperation between Laos and Yunnan province, which continues to expand.   
During her time as Head of the Cooperation Office of the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan province in 2013, Mrs Zhou also made outstanding contributions to furthering relations between Yunnan province and nine northern provinces in Laos in the fields of trade, investment, education and culture.
When she became President of the Yunnan provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Mrs Zhou continued to assist with other Chinese initiatives in Laos, particularly the cataract surgery project in Luang Prabang province which began in 2016.
Speaking at the medal presentation ceremony, Mrs Zhou said she would continue to further promote cooperation between China, particularly Yunnan province, and Laos.
