Lao Front committee bolsters support for development process

The Committee of the Lao Front for National development is meeting in Vientiane to summarise its most recent activities and outline plans in support of its role to boost solidarity and encourage the people of Laos to support the country’s development.
The fourth Plenary Session of the 10th Committee of the Lao Front for National Development is taking place from March 12-13 at the International Cooperation and Training Centre.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Front’s President, Dr Xaysomphone Phomvihane, and over 300 committee members, representatives of ethnic groups, and invited guests from Laos and abroad.
In recent times the Front has been working to raise public awareness about its role and its contribution to national development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Xaysomphone said “This meeting will review the committee’s work and its contribution to the country’s development, and discuss the draft of a work plan for 2019. We will also listen to a report on how the Lao Front can strengthen the solidarity of our committee in France.”
“The meeting will also review the success of the 3rd National Ethnic Conference and share comments with Lao Front committees at the central, local and international levels,” he added.
The meeting will also discuss issues being addressed by the Committee of the Lao Front for National Development to be approved by officials for implementation through the committee.
Over the past year, the Lao Front has encouraged the Lao people to uphold unity, reeducate ethnic groups, and contribute to the country’s overall development.
The Front has also sourced funds and assistance from the government, the private sector and businesses to help people who suffered during the floods last year, especially in Attapeu province.
The Lao Front for National Development has been building promotional teams in Vientiane and the provinces in cooperation with other sectors in Laos and international organisations, to move forward with the development process.
The Front has also played an important role in strengthening solidarity and encouraging the people of Laos to support the revolutionary movement, national defence, and development.
The Lao Front was established on August 13, 1950, when it was known as the Lao Freedom Front, later becoming the Lao Patriotic Front. After Laos achieved liberation in 1975, the organisation was named the Lao Front for National Construction.
Today called the Lao Front for National Development, the organisation is the face of national unity, socio-political relations and voluntary unity. It was established to represent the political, socio-political, and personal wishes of all Lao people, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or age.
