Southern provinces debate cooperation in Triangle Development Area

Officials from Saravan, Champassak, Xekong, and Attapeu provinces met in Saravan province on Wednesday to discuss cooperation with Cambodia and Vietnam in the Triangle Development Area.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Thongphanh Savanphet and the Vice Governor of Saravan province Mr Phouthong Khammanivong co-chaired the meeting, when the outcomes of the 10th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Summit were circulated.
The main documents adopted at the recent summit were the 10th CLV Summit Declaration and the Action Plan on CLV Economic Connectivity towards 2030.
An agreement on trade promotion and facilitation in the Triangle Development Area, which was signed by the participating countries’ governments at the 9th CLV Summit held in Siem Reap in 2016, was also discussed at the meeting.
This agreement aims to move forward socio-economic development in Laos as well as in the provinces of the Triangle Development Area, and accelerate regional and international economic integration.
Meeting participants also discussed Laos’ preparations to host the 11th CLV Triangle Development Area meeting next year, and other important plans for this year and next.
The progress made by the four southern provinces in the implementation of CLV cooperation mechanisms, as well as past outcomes, deficiencies, recommendations, and possible solutions with regard to future paths of action, were also discussed.
Meeting participants on Tuesday visited Japanese-supported development projects in Saravan province under the CLV Triangle Development Area cooperation mechanism, and places of economic potential in the province.
