Vientiane residents call for more compensation for lost land  

- Authorities urged to expedite registration of foreign workers
Labour officials across the country must expedite the process of registering illegal foreign workers, Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has said. Authorities in every province have been instructed to speed up the process, to comply with the relevant laws and regulations. Officials must register foreign workers and issue them with a temporary work permit for every year they work in Laos,

 Vientiane residents call for more compensation for lost land
Many Vientiane residents whose property is affected by infrastructure development have refused the compensation offered, saying the amount is far too small. Director of the Vientiane Public Works and Transport Department, Mr Dedsongkharm Thammavong, told the Vientiane’s People Council recently that people have requested compensation in keeping with the market value of their land.
