-NA approves economic policies, laws in closing session
The 10th ordinary session of the National Assembly (NA)’s 8th legislature wrapped up on Tuesday after approving economic recovery policies and five laws.
During the three-week session, members debated measures presented by the government to overcome economic difficulties and the debt burden, which have been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Asean-partner summits cement path of future cooperation
Asean and the United States have approved six priorities for future cooperation, while the Southeast Asia bloc shares a common vision with New Zealand for cooperation towards peace, prosperity, people, and the planet.
Leaders from Asean and the US reached decisions on these directions in cooperation at the 8th Asean-US Summit held virtually on Sunday.

Laos has recorded another case of Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 25, according to a member of the body supervising the prevention and control of the virus.

Laos and the Republic of Korea are enjoying fast-growing ties with huge untapped potential to further develop their bilateral relationship and cooperation to new heights, Korean Ambassador to Laos Shin Sung-soon has said.
He made the comment as the two Asian countries mark 25 years of diplomatic relations.
- Australia announces AUD500 m support for vaccines in Laos, SE Asia
The Australian government last week announced new financial support of AUD500 million (more than US$366 million) to help countries in Southeast Asia, and the Pacific, including Laos to access safe and effective vaccines, its embassy said in a press release.
The pledged financing for the ‘Regional Vaccine Access and Health Security Initiative for Southeast Asia, and the Pacific’ comes as some pharmaceutical companies have announced initial success in developing a Covid-19 vaccine.

Representatives of development partners and ministry officials involved in digital government on Tuesday met in Vientiane to discuss further progress towards the digitalisation of government systems.
Meeting participants reported on the progress made and discussed future plans for digital government.

The Japanese government and Unicef are intending to promote the sustainable recovery of flood-affected areas and to strengthen community-based disaster resilience and preparedness in Attapeu province’s Sanamxay district.
The Ambassador of Japan to Lao PDR, Mr Keizo Takewaka, and the Unicef Representative, Dr Pia Rebello Britto, on Wednesday conducted a joint-visit to the province, to review UNICEF-supported interventions.....More >>>
- Luxembourg donates equipment to help Laos tide over COVID-19
The Ministry of Health received donations worth US$273,000 from the Luxembourg Embassy in Vientiane on Monday in the form of medical equipment for molecular diagnostics of COVID-19 and to step up efforts against COVID-19.
The newly-acquired laboratory equipment will help diagnose and monitor COVID-19 in Vientiane. The donated medical equipment, under the Luxembourg PARECIDS programme was handed over to the Minister of Health, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute Pasteur du Laos (IP Laos), Associate Prof Dr Bounkong Syhavong, by the Luxembourg Chargé d’Affaires to Laos, Mr Sam Schreiner. ...More >>>
