The 10th ordinary session of the National Assembly (NA)’s 8th legislature wrapped up on Tuesday after approving economic recovery policies and five laws. During the three-week session, members debated measures presented by the government to overcome economic difficulties and the debt burden, which have been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Australian government last week announced new financial support of AUD500 million (more than US$366 million) to help countries in Southeast Asia, and the Pacific, including Laos to access safe and effective vaccines, its embassy said in a press release. The pledged financing for the ‘Regional Vaccine Access and Health Security Initiative for Southeast Asia, and the Pacific’ comes as some pharmaceutical companies have announced initial success in developing a Covid-19 vaccine.

- Luxembourg donates equipment to help Laos tide over COVID-19
The Ministry of Health received donations worth US$273,000 from the Luxembourg Embassy in Vientiane on Monday in the form of medical equipment for molecular diagnostics of COVID-19 and to step up efforts against COVID-19.
The newly-acquired laboratory equipment will help diagnose and monitor COVID-19 in Vientiane.
