Miss Universe Laos proud to represent country on international stage

Miss Universe Laos, Souphaphone Somvichith, who is better known to friends as Nui, is very excited to be the first contestant from the country to participate in the Miss Universe pageant.
Currently in the United States, preparing for the contest to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 26, she says she is ready to put her best foot forward and take on the other contestants from around the world.
Ms Souphaphone was named the winner of the Miss Universe Laos contest on August 26, and she flew to America on November 11. More than 95 contestants will compete for the crown.

A contest to choose a beauty queen to represent Laos at the Miss Universe pageant was organised in the country for the first time this year.
This is the first time Ms Souphaphone is visiting the US and also the first time she is participating in an international event.
“It is a challenge and very exciting for me. I’m very happy and proud of this. I’m ready and confident to take on this important task and I will try my best to show my abilities and talents,” she said.
Miss Souphaphone also said she is very happy and proud to be the representative of Lao women on the international stage.
“It is very honourable and meaningful for me to be the representative from Laos. I have prepared to showcase many things on the stage, including Lao national costumes, and culture and tourism,” she said.
“I think it is not only a chance to compete with the other contestants but also a good opportunity to promote Laos. It may be a chance to open the door to our country and to tell the world more about Laos, and its people, culture, and lifestyle.
“As next year is Visit Laos Year, this will be a good time to promote our country, the Lao people, who have a charming culture, and our women, who have a unique dressing style. I will urge everyone, including the contestants and Lao people living in other countries, especially in the United States, to visit Laos.”
Like all the other contestants, Ms Souphaphone too says she hopes to emerge the winner. “I am ready and confident, and if I win, I will take on the assigned missions and duties as well as possible,” she said.
“Of course, I still need support from Lao people nationwide and my foreign fans. So I would like to ask them to cheer for me. I would like to thank the Miss Universe Laos organising committee and Miss Universe organising committee in the United Sates for giving me this chance, as well as all the sponsors, supporters, coordinators, family and friends.”
Mr Sitthisay, the father and manager of Ms Souphaphone, said he is very proud of his daughter.
“I and all members of our family are very happy and proud of Nui, that she won the Miss Universe Laos contest and that she is competing in America. It is really important for us,” he said.
“We have always supported her for taking part in such contests or whatever else she likes to do and we will continue to support her. This time, I have tried to encourage her to practice as well as possible before she competes on this big stage. Of course, we want her to win and bring the title home.”
Ms Souphaphone was born on October 7, 1997 at Hongkha village in Chanthabouly district of Vientiane.
She is a third year student in the Business Administration Department at Comcenter College in Vientiane. She is also good at taekwondo and likes to play sports in her free time.
She began taekwondo lessons when she was 13 years old and has taken part in national and university sports competitions and won many medals.
She also participated in some events in Thailand and recently won a gold medal at the national games hosted by Oudomxay province last year.
She took part in the Miss Vientiane 2016 competition and emerged the first runner up. After that, she bagged several modeling gigs, of which the most notable was being featured as the cover girl of Mahason Magazine.
She also played a leading role in the music video Kub Pai Sat by the rock group Black Eyes.
But this year, she has mainly focused on the Miss Universe Laos contest. In the future, she dreams of becoming a businesswoman, especially because this is what her father wants.
For staying in shape, Ms Souphanphone regularly exercises, eats vegetables and fruits and tries to be in the best of mental and physical health.
Everyone can follow her on Facebook: Nui Souphaphone Somvicith and Instagram:NNuuii2, and TV Lao HD channel will broadcast the contest.
