- More children test positive for Covid in past 3 months
Cases of Covid-19 among children are on the rise, with 19 cases recorded in May and as many as 146 identified in August, while at least 10 children are known to have recovered from the virus, a health official has said.
The number of pregnant women contracting the virus has also increased, with three admitted to hospital in May and up to 71 admitted in August. The infection pattern among children is no different from that of adults, but children are more vulnerable to illness if they are obese or have other health issues such as diabetes, hearing problems, asthma, or genetic metabolic disorders, Deputy Director General of the Department of Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Dr​ Sommana Lattana said.....More >>>

Returning migrant workers get job skills training 
A project to provide job skill training for returning migrant workers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic is being supported by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
The initiative is assisting migrant workers by enabling them to better cope with the effects of the pandemic by providing them with new skills so they can stay out of poverty.

- Thunderstorms, heavy rain forecast nationwide over coming week
Thunderstorms and heavy rain will continue throughout Laos until at least September 5, while flooding and landslides are possible in all areas of the country following days of rainfall, the Meteorology and Hydrology Department has warned.
Phongsaly, Huaphan and Xieng Khuang provinces will have thunderstorms and heavy rain with occasional strong winds, with temperatures ranging from 18-31C.
In Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang and Xayaboury provinces temperatures will range from 21-34C and there will be both heavy and light rain with wind gusts.Vientiane will have thunderstorms, rainfall of varying intensities, and wind gusts.
