- Over US$8.8m to be spent on infrastructure upgrade in Vangvieng
More than US$8.8 million is being spent to improve infrastructure, including construction of a road leading to Kaeng Nyui waterfall in the tourist hotspot of Vangvieng in Vientiane province. The upgrade is being funded by the Asian Development Bank and will also include the construction of the Nam Xong Bridge and a road on the west side of the Nam Xong river.

The residents of 60 villages of Huaphan and Xieng Khuang provinces will have better living conditions under the Strengthening Livelihood Systems project supported by Luxembourg. Landholders across Laos are expected to benefit from improved land administration and titling under a US$31 million project approved by the World Bank this week.
The landholders to gain benefit include some of the most vulnerable households, the Bank said on its website.

Covid taskforce seeks to reduce locally-transmitted cases
Laos is at high risk of a major community outbreak of Covid-19, meaning that strengthened control measures are essential, according to the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control. The government is concerned about the rise in new cases, notably in Vientiane and the provinces of Savannakhet and Bokeo, saying that locally- transmitted cases in these areas could escalate to Level 3: Covid-19 high (major community outbreak). ....More >>>

- Police clamp down on rule-breaking businesses
Police are carrying out inspections of beauty salons, restaurants and internet cafes in the capital and have ordered staff and patrons at rule-breaking businesses to spend 14 days in quarantine.
Last week, police and local authorities in Dongnathong village, Sikhottabong district, went to an internet café after reports of people drinking and playing music, which disturbed local residents and was a violation of the restrictions in place to curb the spread of Covid-19. ....More >>>

- Forecasters warn of flooding, landslides
Thunderstorms, rain and gusting winds will prevail across Laos until September 12, while flooding and landslides are possible in central and northern regions from September 7-9, the Meteorology and Hydrology Department, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, has warned.
In the northeast, temperatures will range from 18-32 degrees Celsius and there will be thunderstorms, light rain and wind gusts in Phongsaly and Huaphan provinces. ....More >>>
