Lao and Cambodian officials agree to implement the minutes of border demarcation meetings held in Laos and Cambodia.

Laos, Cambodia identify 75 boundary points, install 134 markers

Lao and Cambodian authorities have made significant strides in their joint border demarcation efforts, identifying 75 boundary points and installing 134 new permanent markers between June 2024 and July 2025.
The progress was announced at the 8th Meeting of the Laos-Cambodia and Cambodia-Laos Joint Boundary Commissions, held on July 26 in Phnom Penh, where both sides agreed to deepen collaboration to complete the remaining work along their shared border.
Since May 2023, the total number of identified boundary points has reached 241, equalling 47.25 percent of the total, while 207 permanent markers have been erected, accounting for 40.58 percent of the planned 510 markers along the entire shared border, according to a press release from the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was another milestone in the longstanding effort to complete boundary demarcation between the two countries.
The two delegations reviewed recent progress and approved the minutes of the 11th meeting of the Laos-Cambodia and Cambodia-Laos Joint Technical Boundary Sub-Commission held on April 28 in Luang Prabang, and the Chairmen’s Meeting of the Sub-Commission held on July 25 in Phnom Penh.
The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and ensuring a peaceful, well-managed shared border following the successful conclusion of the 8th Meeting of the Laos-Cambodia and Cambodia-Laos Joint Boundary Commission.
The Lao delegation was led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Laos-Cambodia commission, Mr Thongsavanh Phomvihane, while the Minister in charge of the Secretariat of State for Border Affairs and Chairman of Cambodia, Mr Lam Chea, led a delegation from the Cambodian commission.
Senior officials from central and local authorities in both countries also attended the meeting.
Participants agreed to accelerate the pace of fieldwork, particularly the replacement of ageing markers and installation of supplementary signs, with the aim of completing the remaining tasks in close coordination.
These efforts are expected to culminate in full border demarcation and contribute to more effective border management.
The two parties also discussed unresolved issues and agreed to mark the 30th anniversary of the Laos-Cambodia Joint Boundary Survey and Demarcation.
The meeting concluded in a spirit of goodwill and mutual respect, reflecting the deep-rooted neighbourly ties between Laos and Cambodia.
Officials on both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady progress made and reaffirmed their shared commitment to transforming the common border into a symbol of lasting peace, stability, and development.
As envisioned by the top leaders of both countries, continued collaboration on border demarcation will not only help ensure harmony and convenience for border communities but also contribute to broader regional peace and prosperity.
