Nam Tha 1 Lao Power Co., Ltd. and Pha-oudom district authorities in Bokeo province haven taken steps to improve school facilities in the district by providing accommodation for teachers at a local primary school.
In a fitting tribute to National Teachers’ Day on October 7, the company arranged for the construction of an accommodation block for teachers at Hatnam village primary school.
The new facility, together with educational supplies, was officially handed over on Tuesday by the Deputy Manager of Nam Tha 1 Lao Power Co., Ltd., Mr Liu Wei, and his staff to Pha-oudom district Party Secretary, Mr Kang Manivang.
Also present on the occasion were teachers at the school and officials from the provincial Education and Sports Department.
The accommodation block and the educational supplies were funded by China Southern Power Grid.
Mr Liu said “We would like to support children and students in their studies  and help them develop knowledge and skills.”
“Our company is committed to supporting the education sector and contributing to society, both locally and beyond.”
The company has previously provided training for students at its local operations, as well as organising study tours for them in China.
During the handover ceremony on Tuesday, staff at Hatnam village primary school asked the power company for further support, specifically electronic equipment, a Chinese language teacher, and more teaching materials.
The school has been named a a Laos-China Friendship School in recognition of its close association with Chinese entities.
Mr Kang said Nam Tha 1 Lao Power Co., Ltd. has been providing assistance to students in the area for the past 10 years by helping with training in electrical subjects.
He asked the company to continue its support for education, particularly for students from poor families, and to assist with the supply of clean water in remote areas.
Each year, the company provides teaching and learning materials and sports equipment to schools in Pha-oudom district.
In May this year, the company provided educational supplies, built teacher accommodation, constructed new classrooms, repaired old buildings, renovated sports grounds, and donated sports equipment to schools in Hatnam and Vanglek villages, all funded by China Southern Power Grid.
