Thai Prime Minister to visit Laos to boost ties
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will make an official visit to Laos on October 16 at the invitation of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The visit aims to further strengthen the long-standing friendship and enhance cooperation under the Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Growth and Development between the two neighbouring countries.
This will be the first official visit to Laos by Mr Anutin, who took office only a few months ago as Thailand’s 32nd prime minister.
He is the third Thai prime minister to visit Laos since 2023, following Mr Srettha Thavisin and Ms Paetongtarn Shinawatra, reflecting Thailand’s continued commitment to closer relations with Laos.
Mr Anutin and Mr Sonexay are expected to discuss ways to promote economic growth, improve regional connectivity and enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Thailand is among Laos’ top three biggest foreign investors and a key trading partner.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and Thailand, an important milestone in the history of friendship, cultural exchanges and mutual development between the two nations.
