Lao pencak silat federation celebrates success at National Games
The Lao Pencak Silat Federation is celebrating the success of its combatants during events that took place during the National Games in Vientiane from November 12-16.
Looking ahead, the federation will prepare the strongest contestants for upcoming competitions in other countries.
The federation will prepare four male fighters in the men’s 50kg, 55kg, 57kg, and 63kg categories, and one female fighter in the 55kg category, to compete in the ASEAN Student Games in Brunei starting on Tuesday this week.
Additionally, the federation will prepare men’s and women’s teams to compete in 11 categories of pencak silat dance and fighting events at the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand next month.

A federation representative, Mr Vanxay Oudomphon, said "We have complied with the international rules governing this martial art form and are pleased with the results of the pencak silat competition over the past week."
Mr Vanxay said the competition was a good test of the skills of up-and-coming martial artists, improved their tactics and gave them valuable match experience before they compete in international events.

A total of 72 contestants representing the Ministries of National Defence and Public Security, as well as eight provinces, competed in the dance and fighting events, winning 21 gold, 21 silver, and 42 bronze medals.
The Army team placed first with 7 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
The host team, Vientiane, came second with 3 gold, 2 silver, and 8 bronze medals and a team from Vientiane province took third place with 3 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Savannakhet province placed fourth with 2 gold, 3 silver, and 9 bronze medals and the Police team took fifth place with 2 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
