Lao Brewery launches massive €50.2 million plant expansion

The Lao Brewery Company officially launched a major plant expansion on Thursday to boost production and support Laos’ economic growth.
The Long-Term Development Phase 1 project involves an investment of €50.2 million (about1.18 trillion kip). It is part of a 10-year plan to modernise the company’s factory on Thadeua Road in Vientiane and build sustainable infrastructure.
Speaking to the media at the event, Managing Director of the Lao Brewery Company, Mr Henrik Juel Andersen, commented on the strategic timing of the project.

“We believe in Laos as a place to make investments. We have been here for many years and have a lot of confidence in the Lao economy,” he said.
The expansion comes as demand for soft drinks and drinking water grows rapidly across the country. The core of the project is a new high-speed production line, which can fill up to 45,000 bottles an hour.
The machinery handles both cans and PET bottles in one system. This improves efficiency and keeps production costs low to ensure long-term competitiveness.

The project creates jobs and strengthens domestic manufacturing capability. It also enhances supply chain resilience and increases tax contributions to the government.
Sustainability is a key focus. Technologies in the new facility reduce water, electricity and heat usage, which lowers carbon emissions through efficient production.

Mr Andersen said the company is close to running operations with zero carbon emissions. “Within the next 12 to 18 months, we believe we can completely eliminate all carbon emissions from our three breweries. I think we are the first brewery and soft drink factory group in Asia to do that.”
The company maintains four key ISO certifications for quality, food safety, environment and safety management. It also recently adopted the global GS1 barcode system to improve supply chain transparency and export readiness.
“We are fully ISO certified. It is a testament to the quality of our production, our operations, and our processes,” Mr Andersen said.
Several senior government leaders and international partners attended the launch. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr Santiphab Phomvihane, officiated the event.
He was joined by Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr Manothong Vongsay, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Ms Chanthakhone Bualaphanh. Chairman of the Hadxaifong District Administration Committee, Mr Buasai Lounnavongsa, also attended.
Other notable guests included the Danish Ambassador to Vietnam and Laos, Mr Nicolai Prytz, and the Executive Deputy President for Carlsberg Asia, Mr João Abecasis.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr Santiphab Phomvihane, said, “This investment, exceeding more than 50 million euros, marks a significant milestone in the strategic growth and expansion of the Lao Brewery Company. Beyond the company’s success, the Government views this expansion as a powerful reaffirmation of investor confidence in the Lao PDR’s economic landscape.”
“It underscores the strength of enduring public-private partnerships and serves as a clear signal to the global community that Laos remains a stable, transparent, and highly attractive destination for sustainable long-term investment.”
Executive Deputy President for Carlsberg Asia, Mr João Abecasis, said, “Laos is an important part of our growth strategy in Asia. Through LBC, we are investing in long-term capability, strengthening our presence in the region while supporting sustainable growth.”
