Vice President’s visit to Cuba strengthens Party ties

Interest in strengthening the longstanding ties between the Republic of Cuba and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic was evident during a meeting of senior officials from the two countries that took place in the Cuban capital Havana.

High-ranking Lao and Cuban officials meet for talks in Havana, Cuba.

According to the Cuban News Agency, the conversations were led by a member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organisation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Roberto Morales Ojeda, and Politburo member and Vice President of the Lao PDR, Mr Bounthong Chitmany, who is on an official visit to Cuba.
Mr Morales Ojeda expressed the high priority given by the PCC to the exchange programme planned during the visit by the Lao delegation, which will extend until next Tuesday.
He described as excellent the inter-Party relations based on political dialogue at the highest level and the fluid contact between the political and mass organisations of the two nations.
The Cuban Party leader expressed his pleasure at the prospect of holding the Second Theoretical Seminar between the two sides, which is a continuation of the first meeting of this type held in Laos, as a mechanism to share particular experiences in socialist construction.
Mr Bounthong Chitmany conveyed greetings to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, the leader of the Cuban Revolution, and to Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, on behalf of the General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith.
The visit by Mr Bounthong is in response to an invitation extended by Morales Ojeda during his tour of the Asian region which included a stop in Laos. His programme includes other meetings with Cuban authorities and visits to places of interest.
