Vietnam embassy marks 50th anniversary of national reunification with photo exhibition
The Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Laos on Tuesday hosted a photo exhibition and commemorative ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025).
The exhibition was displayed in the Vietnamese Embassy compound and the visitors were guided by the Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos, Mr Nguyen Minh Tam.
The photos paid tribute to the historic struggle and unbreakable solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, celebrating the shared sacrifices and victories of their peoples.
Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam, alongside senior Lao officials, attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which featured nearly 200 photographs chronicling Vietnam’s decades-long resistance against foreign intervention, culminating in the historic Spring Victory of 1975.
The images vividly portrayed pivotal moments of the Vietnam–Laos revolutionary alliance, including wartime collaboration between leaders, soldiers, and civilians of both nations.
Rare visual images depicted joint wartime efforts, volunteer soldiers, and the unwavering support of Lao citizens during Vietnam’s fight for independence.
In his keynote opening remarks at the event, Ambassador Tam underscored the profound significance of the anniversary, saying “Today, we honour the sacrifices of our forebears who fought fearlessly for liberation and reunification. Their legacy lives on in the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos—a bond forged in blood and sacrifice, and one that continues to guide our nations toward peace, stability, and shared prosperity.”
The exhibition also showcased modern achievements in bilateral relations, emphasising advancements in politics, trade, culture, and education.
The Vietnamese Ambassador reiterated President Ho Chi Minh’s vision of a “prosperous, dignified, and radiant nation”, a goal that both countries continue to pursue through deepened cooperation.
The ambassador thanked Lao government agencies, central Party organisations, and the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in Laos for their support in organising the event, and urged members of the younger generation to safeguard the revolutionary legacy.
“Let us study, work, and strive tirelessly to protect the achievements of our predecessors. The special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos must be nurtured and strengthened, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of regional stability and global cooperation,” he said.
The photo exhibition is a poignant reflection of a defining chapter in Vietnam–Laos history and the two nations’ enduring partnership.
On the same occasion, the Ambassador also delivered a lecture on the history around the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025), and the special friendship between Laos and Vietnam that deepened during their fight to throw off the yoke of common aggressors.
Among the other attendees were senior Lao officials, diplomats, Vietnamese expatriates, educators, and students, who reflected on the nations’ intertwined history and future.
