The Rice and Cash Crop Research Centre in cooperation with the Horticulture Research Centre under the National Agriculture and Forestry Research last week runs a training session on the processing of rice and fruit tree products in Hatdonekeo village, Hadxaifong district, Vientiane, supported by the JAIF-IRRI Capacity Development Programme for ASIAN Rice Net. The event taught women how to improve fruit, vegetable and rice processing methods to add value to agricultural produce while also following food safety rules. One of the aims of food processing is to ensure food security during lean times and when certain crops are out of season. The training, which included theoretical and practical components, was led by a professor from the Institute of Food Science in the Philippines. |
