Planting trees to promote tourism at Kaeng-Nyui waterfall in Vangvieng district

A tree-planting activity was held at Naduang village in Vangvieng district of Vientiane province on Sunday  to promote the Kaeng-Nyui waterfall, a new tourist attraction in the area.
The opening ceremony for the activity was attended by the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Suanesavanh Vignaket, the Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Darany Phommavongsa, and officials of the ministry, Vientiane province, Vangvieng district, the village and various sectors.
The tree-planting activity celebrated the 45th anniversary of the National Arbour’s Day and the 101st anniversary of the International Children’s Day, both observed on June 1.
Mrs Darany said the tree-planting activity is an important milestone that demonstrates the solidarity and unity of relevant parties from the government, businesses and the local people in supporting the community of Naduang village and neighbouring villages to protect natural resources and to contribute to the development of tourism.
“The fact that we have such rich forests, dense trees, fresh and clean air, and the beautiful Kaeng-Nyui waterfall is due to the protection of the people of Naduang and neighbouring villages, and these resources will bring endless benefits to the people,” she said.

Realising the potential of the waterfall, the Lao government, including the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, has been trying to mobilise funds to improve the six-kilometre access road and improve the service area at the Kaeng-Nyui waterfall area to provide convenient services to tourists so that they can relax at the site, which can also be a source of natural learning for locals and tourists.
This is being done in preparation for the opening of services for tourists at the waterfall in conjunction with the celebration of National Arbor Day.
Mrs Darany said, “Today, we are coming together to plant trees to contribute to making this forest area shady and beautiful, to contribute to environmental protection, to provide the local area with a water source all year round, to help reduce global warming, and to contribute to creating carbon credits for the country, which is a new way to invest with long-term and sustainable economic returns.
“We planted a total of 235 trees, supported by the GMS Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project.”
After the planting of the trees, she expressed gratitude to the authorities and the people of Naduang and Phonpheng villages and urged them to continue caring for and maintaining the trees so that they grow to provide shade and bloom beautifully along the access road and within the area of  Kaeng-Nyui waterfall.
“I am confident that in the near future, this tourist attraction will be a destination that domestic and foreign tourists will want to visit,” she said.
The Kaeng-Nyui waterfall site includes forests and natural resources spread over 10 hectares.
The Head of Naduang village, Mr Sengdao Vongphachan, said: “We will be ready to open the Kaeng-Nyui waterfall by the end of this month and we will be able to welcome domestic and foreign visitors.”
About 90 percent of the work at the Kaeng-Nyui waterfall has been completed. The residents of Naduang village are preparing homestays for tourists.
