Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

11 years of Modi government: Building a confident, capable, and compassionate India

As India marks 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation reflects on a transformative journey in governance, infrastructure, economy, social welfare, and global leadership from 2014 to 2025.
Infrastructure development achieved unprecedented momentum. National highway length grew from 91,000km to over 145,000km. More than 300,000km of rural roads were constructed under the PM Gram Sadak Yojana. The Indian Railways introduced 82 Vande Bharat trains and electrified over 45,000km of tracks.
Air connectivity expanded through the UDAN scheme, which operationalised more than 50 new airports. Digital access reached rural areas via BharatNet, connecting 240,000 Gram Panchayats, while the rollout of 5G positioned India as a global tech leader.
India emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy, driven by structural reforms like the Goods and Services Tax (GST). A thriving startup ecosystem, now the third-largest globally, features over 125,000 recognised startups.
The Jan Dhan Yojana opened 551.7 million bank accounts with deposits totalling 2.26 trillion rupees, including 308 million held by women. The Mudra Yojana sanctioned 83.41 trillion rupees in loans to 527.7 million accounts, with 68 percent of loans benefiting women and over half to marginalised communities.
Social welfare delivery expanded rapidly. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan enabled India to become open defecation free with over 110 million toilets. More than 40 million homes were sanctioned under the PM Awas Yojana. Ayushman Bharat, the world’s largest health assurance scheme, offers 500,000 rupees coverage to over 550 million people.
Women empowerment gained ground through key milestones. The first female cadets graduated from the National Defence Academy in May 2025. Women scientists played critical roles in the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam secured 33 percent reservation for women in national and state legislatures.
Over 100 million women are engaged in Self-Help Groups, maternity leave was extended to 26 weeks, and 42 million Sukanya Samriddhi accounts were opened to secure the future of girl children. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative improved the sex ratio at birth from 918 to 930.
India’s agriculture budget has increased nearly fivefold since 2013–14, with foodgrain output reaching 347.44 million tonnes. Key programmes included Minimum Support Price hikes, significant procurement increases for pulses and oilseeds, 8.37 trillion rupees disbursed to farmers under PM-KISAN, and 210 trillion rupees in credit through Kisan Credit Cards to 77.1 million beneficiaries.
India adopted a firm and proactive security stance, with operations like the Surgical Strikes (2016), Balakot airstrikes (2019), and Operation SINDOOR (2025). Terror incidents in Jammu & Kashmir dropped significantly from 228 in 2018 to just 28 in 2024.
India’s space programme reached new heights. ISRO set a world record by launching 104 satellites in 2017. The Chandrayaan-3 mission made India the first country to land near the moon’s south pole. With over 328 space startups, India is preparing for human spaceflight in 2027 under the 2.2 trillion rupee Gaganyaan Programme.
India’s cultural diplomacy flourished. The International Day of Yoga, proposed by Prime Minister Modi at the United Nations in 2014, has become a global wellness movement. In 2025, over 1,000 people—including celebrities and public figures—joined celebrations in the Lao PDR. India also hosted WAVES 2025, a global media and entertainment summit, welcoming over 100,000 visitors from more than 100 countries.
India now has 43 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, with 62 more on the tentative list, highlighting its rich civilisational legacy.
As G20 President in 2023, India championed the voice of the Global South. It led international climate efforts through initiatives such as LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), the Panchamrit commitments, and the International Solar Alliance—now with 105 member nations.
From digital transformation to social equity and climate leadership, India’s journey under Prime Minister Modi represents a confident, capable, and compassionate nation poised to lead in the global arena.
