LFND expands solidarity village fund to boost rural economy

The Lao Front for National Development (LFND) is planning to expand its Solidarity Village Fund Project to provide greater opportunities for Lao farming families and cooperative groups, supporting socio-economic development in rural areas.
The LFND, led by its Vice President, Dr Od Phongsavanh, on Thursday met with leaders of the Vientiane Front for National Development, representatives of the agriculture and environment sector and the industry and commerce sector, as well as authorities at the district level in the Vientiane

Administration Office to explain the importance, benefits, policies and conditions of the fund.
The goal of the project is to provide facilities for funding to people in promoting commercial products and services, create job opportunities, and generate income, aiming to alleviate the poverty of Lao people in rural areas.

Local people can easily access this fund without too many steps involved and people will have the capital they need to grow their crops in time for the right season and to raise livestock for sale.
People will be able learn about agriculture and livestock breeding under the project and help to develop the skills of their community to strengthen village economies.
The project also aims to encourage and support Lao people of all ethnic groups to produce goods and gradually improve their living conditions in accordance with the policies of the government.
Under the project, people have developed their own professions, created jobs, and are able to grow their own high-quality crops with good yields. The project has helped to reduce the cost of people purchasing materials and equipment for agricultural production as well as finding and supplying markets for growers.
The villages that have received the agreement to establish the Lao Front for National Construction Solidarity and Development Fund are 44 villages, where 25 funds are being implemented in 23 districts of 10 provinces.
Vientiane, Xaysomboun and Attapeu province each have one fund, Xayabouly, Khammuan and Xekong each have two funds, there are three funds in Salavan province, Huaphan and Champasak provinces each have four funds, and there are five funds in Savannakhet.
For other provinces, the fund will continue to be expanded basedon the readiness and potential of each province. The crops being supported include rice, sweetcorn, beans, fruit, mulberries, cassava, rubber, coffee, tea and mushrooms, while livestock breeding includes cattle, pigs, goats and fish.

In addition, the project has promoted handicrafts, transportation and tourism services and trading through wholesale and retail sale, and collected to purchase the agricultural products with farmers.

However, the Lao Front for National Development believes there are still many villages that require this funding for the development of their families and communities. At the meeting, representatives of each district of Vientiane outlined their potential for agriculture and livestock breeding in villages and requested funding to promote their products.
At the end of the meeting, Dr Od explained why the project was established, and the attraction, expansion, development and sustainability of the project up until now.
