Lao media personnel visit China’s Baoshan

Baoshan, Yunnan province, China: Lao media delegates are taking part in a tour of Baoshan city organised for overseas journalists from July 26 to August 1, with the aim of fostering media and people-to-people links, while also learning more about the important role played by Baoshan in regional cooperation.

The group comprises 19 media personnel from Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and Bangladesh. The three individuals representing Laos come from the Vientiane Times, the Pasaxon newspaper, and Lao National Television.
The opening ceremony of the “The World in One Frame: A Wonderful Encounter with Baoshan” 2026 Overseas Media Tour took place on July 27 at Yongchang Hall in Baoshan.

Media personnel from across the region gathered to kick off the week-long visit to learn about the achievements of this border city in areas such as opening-up and international cooperation, development of a specialty coffee industry, the protection of intangible cultural heritage, and rural revitalisation.Speaking at the opening ceremony, Standing Committee member of the CPC Baoshan Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of the Baoshan Municipal People’s Government, Zhang Gaxing, gave the group a warm welcome and explained that Baoshan is an important gateway to the Southern Silk Road and a hub connecting to ASEAN and South Asia.
With its geographical proximity to Myanmar and close community exchanges, Baoshan is enhancing cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong River region and opening up to the international community.
Also speaking at the opening ceremony, the Consul General of Myanmar in Kunming, U Thwin Htet Lin, said Myanmar and Yunnan were close neighbours and people-to-people links were important. The media can act as a bridge to build understanding, he said, and he hoped reporters would provide more information in their respective countries about Baoshan’s many areas of development.
Baoshan is located in southwestern China and shares a border with Myanmar, serving as a key hub and frontier gateway in the Belt and Road Initiative and in Yunnan province’s growing links with South Asia and Southeast Asia.
Lao media personnel observed that their job is not just to transmit information but to connect people’s hearts and minds. By presenting ordinary stories in a warm way, reporters can build understanding and shared dreams of a better life. Lao reporters play an important role in promoting friendship and cooperation between peoples of different countries by sharing positive news and photos in relation to tourism and cultural traditions.
