The Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Welfare receive a donation from Mr Ma Shui Hao Mathew for flood recovery operations.

Lao Asian Economic Development and Investment Block donates 1.1 billion kip for flood relief effort

The Lao Asian Economic Development and Investment Block has donated 1.1 billion kip to the government in response to the appeal for funds to support flood relief efforts across the country.
The donation comes after heavy rainfall and tropical storms, mainly Typhoon Wipha, caused widespread flooding and destruction in June and July.
The company donated the funds to the government on Tuesday at the Prime Minister’s Office in the presence of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, and Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Mr Phosay Sayasone.
Company President Ma Shui Hao Mathew said the severity of the floods in northern Laos had touched his heart.
Learning of the government’s fundraising appeal to provide emergency aid to the many communities affected, the company’s management decided to make a considerable donation in support of this work.
The donation was not only an expression of the company’s deep friendship with the people of Laos, but was a way to give back to society, he said.
The company stands ready to cooperate with the Lao government and people in the flood relief effort and is keen to help those whose lives have been disrupted by the floods, he added.
The Prime Minister thanked the Lao Asian Economic Development and Investment Block for the donation, saying he greatly valued the company’s contribution to this worthy cause and appreciated their deep concern for the welfare of those affected.
This donation not only reflects strong support for the flood relief effort but is also a sincere act of generosity towards the Lao government and people, he said.
The company said it was confident the funds would be used transparently and would be used to help people recover from their losses, ease their hardship, and enable them to return to normal life as quickly as possible.
At the same time, the company apprised the government about its investment policies in Laos, including the promotion of clean energy, environmentally friendly production methods, and the use of electric vehicles and machinery.
Many provinces across the country have been affected by persistent rain and consequent flooding as rivers overflowed, with the extent of the damage continuing to be assessed.
Government bodies and various organisations including the Lao Red Cross are providing aid and support to affected communities. The government has also launched a national fundraising campaign to help with the recovery effort.
