Australian international school donates 111 million kip to Xiengkhouang
The Australian International School Laos has donated more than 111 million kip to finance school renovations, improved water supply, and temple repairs in Xiengkhouang province.
On August 6, a member of the 9th Legislature of the National Assembly, Dr Khamsen Sisavong, who is also President of the Private Education Association and Chairman of the Saengsavanh Education Group, led a delegation from the school, including teachers, to deliver the funds to Khoun and Phaxay districts.
They worked with a member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice President of the Xiengkhouang Provincial People’s Council, Mr Viengxay Sivilay, to distribute the money to the recipients.
A total of 25 million kip was provided for the renovation of Dongdan Primary School in Khoun district, and 50 million kip went to the Phaxay district Education and Sports Office for improvements to Nonghoy Kindergarten, Navanh Primary School, and Phatai Primary School. The funds will be used to finance building renovations and upgrade the water supply.
In addition, 36.145 million kip worth of materials was provided for the renovation of a temple and school in Nahung Nonghoy village.
The official handover ceremony in Phaxay district was chaired by the District Party Secretary, Mr Khamla Keodavanh, and attended by staff from the District Education and Sports Office, village leaders, and local residents.
A large portion of the funds was raised through student-led activities at the Australian International School, such as cake sales, craft fairs, and food stalls.
These activities were organised by the School Director, Mrs Sakdina Rosant, and the 2024-2025 Student Council. The amount raised was supplemented by a personal donation from Dr Khamsen.
