Donors hand over relief materials to communities affected by recent floods in Khammuan province.

Action Education, NCAWMC deliver flood relief to Khammuan

Action Education (AE), in collaboration with the National Commission for the Advancement of Women and Mother-Child (NCAWMC), has provided relief materials worth more than 90 million kip to communities affected by flooding in Khammuan province.
This aid, supported by the French Development Agency (AFD), was distributed to flood-hit residents of Khounkham and Mahaxay districts on August 7.
The supplies included instant noodles, drinking water, canned fish and rice to help meet the immediate needs of affected families.
The ceremony for handing over the aid was held at the Khammuan Provincial Hall, where the Chair of the Provincial Women’s Union, Mrs Phaivanh Phonhalath, represented the donors, while the Deputy Governor and Chair of the Provincial Disaster Management Committee, Dr Keoudone Bouthsingkhone, received the aid on behalf of the recipients.
Dr Keoudone  expressed heartfelt thanks to AE, NCAWMC and AFD for their timely support. He reported that as of July 31, floods had affected 181 villages and 7,227 families, and claimed one life.
The flooding caused extensive damage to farm land and infrastructure, inundating 9,398 hectares of rice fields (3,388 hectares damaged) and 236 hectares of farms, and affecting 51 roads, 11 bridges, four irrigation systems and several fish ponds.
This cooperation reflects the strong solidarity and commitment of development partners and local authorities in supporting disaster-affected communities.
