Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr Vansy Kuamua.

Exhibition showcases 75 years of Lao media and publishing success

An exhibition celebrating the rich history and modern innovations of Laos’ media and publishing industry opened in Vientiane on Monday, marking 75 years since the nation’s first news bulletin rolled off the press.
Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr Vansy Kuamua, officially opened the two-day Mass Media and Publishing Day Exhibition, which is taking place on August 11-12.

A delegation visits the Vientiane Times booth at the exhibition in Vientiane on Monday.

The event features 19 booths showcasing products and services from mass media outlets, telecommunication service providers, printing houses, bookstores, the Australian Embassy, and international organisations.
It brings together government leaders, former leaders, media representatives, and distinguished guests from Laos and abroad.
Mass Media and Publishing Day traces its origins to August 13, 1950, the date recognised as the founding of the country’s national news network.
This day is enshrined in the Law on Media and Publishing. Over the decades, news delivery has shifted from printed newspapers to diverse digital platforms. The media is adapting to new technologies while maintaining its core role in preserving and promoting Lao culture, advancing education, and fostering national unity.
Speaking at the exhibition, Mr Vansy said it was “not only a symbol of success, but also a demonstration of the continuous growth of the sector”. He noted that the products on display reflect the creativity, dedication, and professionalism of media personnel and publishing houses.
The Deputy Minister expressed hope that the exhibition would serve as a platform for exchange, inspiration, and cooperation, enabling the industry to reach even greater heights.
He also thanked all those who have contributed to the development of the media over the past 75 years.
The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to explore a wide range of media products, books, and publications, reflecting the diversity and progress of the Lao media and publishing industry.
