Lao workers take part in a skills training programme previously organised in Laos by Jorakay Corporation.

Southeast Asia’s first “Crocodile Tiler X” provides a platform for Lao workers to global stage

Jorakay Corporation, a leading construction innovation company, will host a tiling contest in Laos on September 6 as part of its Southeast Asia’s first “Crocodile Tiler X” competition, offering skilled tilers across ASEAN the chance to step onto the international stage.
Scheduled to take place at the Lao-ITECC Exhibition Hall in Vientiane, professional tilers in Laos are invited to put their skills to the test.
The competition aims to elevate local tilers’ professional standards to the global level, reinforcing Jorakay’s vision of transforming the tiling profession into a modern, highly skilled career.
Competitors will be judged on their technical prowess, attention to detail, and safety practices.
The winners will be brought to Thailand for an upskilling programme at Jorakay Corporation’s headquarters. There, they will receive specialised training, experience world-class tiling innovations, and share knowledge on international working standards.
Participants will also visit Crocodile’s factory, stores, and brand museum, while immersing themselves in Thai culture.
This experience underscores Jorakay’s commitment to professional innovation and its role in elevating tiling craftsmanship both in Thailand and across the region.

By equipping regional tilers with internationally recognised skills, the initiative will help meet growing demand in the construction sector.
According to Market Research Southeast Asia, the regional construction industry is projected to grow by up to 7 percent annually, driven by urban expansion, infrastructure projects, and large-scale real estate development across both public and private sectors, said the Senior Vice President of Jorakay Corporation Co., Ltd., Dr Jirat Sirichalermpong.
While the ASEAN construction industry is expanding rapidly, it still faces challenges including labour shortages, workplace safety concerns, and the need to train younger generations of workers.
“Jorakay is therefore moving forward to meet the demand for high-quality skilled craftsmen by organising the first regional competition in Southeast Asia,” Dr Jirat said.
In the context of Laos, he noted, the competition will stimulate skill development to support the country’s growing construction industry.
“Laos’ construction sector has the potential for further growth driven by several factors, including tourism, government policies, and international investment,” the Vice President said.
“There is still a need to accelerate the development of labour skills and specialised techniques to boost the standard of work and ensure better efficiency than in the past.”
The Crocodile Tiler X competition is being rolled out across Southeast Asia. The first contest took place in Yangon, Myanmar, on July 12, followed by Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on August 16. Laos will host the third contest on September 6.

Jorakay, Thailand’s No. 1 crocodile brand, offers a wide range of innovative, high-quality products, including tile adhesives and other construction materials.
