Laos has been officially adopted as the 15th dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), underscoring the bloc’s principles and objectives that align with Laos’ foreign policy advocating for peace, independence, friendship, and multilateral cooperation. - PM urges Xekong to build self-reliant economy
The Prime Minister has urged Xekong province authorities to strengthen Party leadership and build a self-reliant economy by making full use of the province’s available resources and potential.
Speaking at the 11th Congress of the Xekong Provincial Party Committee on August 29, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, who is also a Politburo member, said economic growth must remain the province’s priority, with swift action needed to tackle financial difficulties.
He called for stronger regional planning, the creation of development zones, and closer economic links to reduce dependency. He also advised simplifying trade and production procedures to support businesses, families, and traders, while ensuring that tax collection and transport fees are fair and transparent.
